CAUTION: All 3U systems must be mounted to a four-post rack; they cannot be mounted to a two-post rack.
CAUTION: 3U systems weigh from 59-71 lbs. (26-33 kg). A minimum of two people is required to move a 3U system.
Lift the system using both hands and with your knees bent.
NOTE: The outer rails are not required to install the system in a shelving unit. Remove the outer rails before attempting
to install the Series 5050 and 6050 in a shelving unit.
IMPORTANT: If your rack has square holes, use the included square-hole post adaptors. For more information, see
“Square-Hole Post Adaptor” on page 4.
1. To detach the outer rails, slide the outer rail to the end of the system, pull the outer rail release tab
towards the front of the system and pull the outer rail completely away from the system.
Figure 12. Releasing the Outer Rail
1. To adjust the length of the outer rails to fit the distance between your rack posts, loosen the screws on
the longer rear bracket of the outer rails. You can tighten and secure the bracket screws after you have
affixed the outer rails to the rack posts.
IMPORTANT: In some environments the bracket screws cannot be reached after the rails have been installed. In this
case the length of the outer rails should be adjusted and secured before mounting the outer rails into the rack.
NOTE: The screws on the front bracket are pre-adjusted, do not loosen those screws.
After you have detached the outer rails from the inner rails on the chassis and adjusted the length of the
outer rails to fit your rack posts, you are ready to install the outer rail assemblies to the rack.
1. Install the outer rails to the rack posts with the included screw set.
Figure 14. Attaching the Outer Rails to the Rack
IMPORTANT: The sliding part of the outer rails should not be extended when inserting or removing the system.
1. With two people lifting the system, gently slide the inner rails into the outer rails until you get to a hard
stop.
IMPORTANT: The inner and outer rails must meet precisely and the system must be held level to join the
rails. The sliding part of outer rails should not be extended when joining the inner and outer rails.
2. When the system has reached a hard stop, pull the release tabs on both of the inner rails and push the
unit all the way into the rack.

4. Align the larger end of each hole against its corresponding button. To place the rail on the chassis, push
the rail holes into their corresponding chassis buttons.
5. After the rail is placed on the chassis, pull the rail forward until the rail buttons lock into the small ends
of the corresponding holes.
The system ships with the following equipment to accommodate different rack depths:
Standard Brackets. For rack depths of 28 to 33 inches (71.1 to 83.8 cm)
Short Rack Adaptors. For rack depths of 17 to 28 inches (43.2 to 71.1 cm)
IMPORTANT: The system produces front-to-back cooling airflow that requires an unobstructed airflow to the fan
housing. Do not mount the system near other electronic devices that produce back-to-front airflow.
1. In the package, locate a pair of front (short) and rear (long) brackets. The brackets are marked with Up/
Front arrows (front) and Up/Rear arrows (rear).
3. Locate the two buttons on the outer rail and attach the rear (long) bracket to it by sliding the opening of
the rear rail through the button.
4. Measure the depth of your four-post rack and adjust the length of the rails accordingly.
5. Repeat the steps to install the other outer rail to the chassis.
1. Slide the standard bracket forward so that the larger end of the hole is aligned with the rail button and
pull the bracket off the rail. (One end of the hole is larger than the other end.)
