ROOM / ZONE NAMES

As outlined in the concept document, the core functionality of the PRM Navigator is based around
rooms being grouped together in appropriate ‘space type’ groups which in turn reference thermal
templates and ApacheHVAC systems.

It is therefore important that rooms are giving names which clearly identify them with their
associated ‘space type’ groups so that later in the process they can be easily sorted. The space
types that are default with the prototype data are as follows:

TABLE OF ROOM NAMES (from groups)

Commercial Residential
Data Center Bathroom
Elevators Bedroom
Gym Common circulation
Gym (Changing / Showers) Corridor
Kitchen Dining
Lobby Elevators
Office Kitchen
Office ceiling void Living room
Meeting Room Lobby
Parking Parking
Prayer room Services
Retail (Catering) Store
Retail (General) Void
Services
Stairs
Stores
Toilets

An example of an effective naming strategy is as follows:

• Room / Zone names to comprise of a reference and a name

• References are a simple code used to help identify / differentiate specific rooms
• Names are descriptions used to define the room / zone space type
• Basement - Start at lowest level e.g. for building with 3 basement levels use B0300. Use
the last two digits for room/zone/unit reference e.g. B0301: Car park
• Ground - Use G000. Use the last two digits for room/zone/unit reference e.g. G001: Retail
• Podium - Start at first podium level as P0100, then P0200 etc. Use the last two digits for
room/zone/unit reference e.g. P001: Retail
• Floors - Start at F0100, then F0200 etc. Use last two digits for room/zone/unit reference
e.g. 0101: Office
1
• Roof - Start at R0100
• In cases where room names do not match an existing ‘space type’ name the room should
be giving the name shown on the drawings preceded by the nearest ‘space type’ room
group e.g. a ‘restaurant’ shown on Podium 1, unit 1 would be ‘P0101: Retail – Restaurant’

Note: that last two digits are only really necessary for key room/zones/unit references such as
offices, apartments etc. It is not necessary to number ancillary rooms such as stairs, elevators,
toilets, core / services
