ABSTRACT
Architecture remains incomplete until the design is transformed from paper to reality. The internship course
in the B.Arch. V/I curriculum is designed to give architecture students an overview of the field's
professional knowledge.
Internship, a practical section of a course of study. Students can get the necessary practical experience by
working as a trainee architect in a registered and expertly supervised architectural firm. Internship in
Architecture is a vital course. Students not only have a theoretical break for the duration of the semester,
but they also have the chance to think about the architectural field beyond their drafting table and
presentation board.
During, my internship, I joined Design Scape, as a trainee architect for 80 days. This internship report
details my experiences working on numerous projects as a trainee architect with the goal of gaining practical
expertise in the architectural professions.

➢ Sanitary drawing
➢ Electrical drawing
➢ Draft plan

The project type is commercial mixed-use building and I was tasked to complete the electrical and sanitary
drawings of the hub. Also, I was involved in editing plan as per the changes done. With the guidance of the
senior architect, I prepared sanitary and electrical drawings of whole building.
Points to be considered in Sanitary drawing
Sanitary drawing includes:

➢ Soil and waste pipe layout

➢ Rainwater disposal layout
➢ Hot and cold water supply layout

For the layout of soil and waste pipe:

➢ Should avoid having the waste pipe and the soil intersect or overlap.
➢ It is preferable to tilt pipes at an acute angle and slope it on one side rather than connecting them
perpendicularly.
➢ Floor traps for shower and basin must be provided separately to avoid overflow

Manhole
Required when there is change of direction or where access Manhole

is required for maintenance purpose.

Soak pit
Soak pit helps in letting the waste water coming from the
septic tank to slowly soak into the underlying ground.

Septic Tank
Septic tank is used underground sewage system.

Points to be considered in Electrical drawing

➢ Light fixture shouldn’t be placed directly over the head.
➢ The light fixtures shouldn’t be placed near the beam.
➢ Distribution Boards are provided floor wise and is considered practical when placed at the same
location.
➢ The socket near the door is connected to the main distribution board and other sockets in the room
connected through it.

➢ Sanitary drawings: Proper sanitary details to be incorporated for soil pipe, waste pipe, manholes,
soak pits and septic tanks
➢ Sanitary pipes
▪ In floor levels
➢ Soil pipe: 4”
➢ Waste pipe: 3”
➢ Soak pit diameter must be greater than 18”
➢ Water distribution pipes in upper floor is thicker than that in lower floors because water flows faster
in lower floors due to gravity
➢ No of pipes required- hot water pipe, cold water pipe, water supply from underground tank to
overhead tank, rain water collection from different floors, soil pipe and waste pipe.
➢ Electrical drawings: Proper way of allocate electrical fixtures, power sockets points.

WALL DESIGN FOR DESIGN SCAPE

➢ Status: Design Completed
➢ Skills Learned:

THE CONCEPT
Concept originated from De Stijl, which means Style in Dutch, was a
magazine in which the artists promoted their ideas on art and
abstraction. De Stijl artwork stands out through its use of primary
colors, horizontal and vertical lines, squares, and rectangles within the
genre of modernism.

1. Straight lines: De Stijl art features clean and straight vertical and horizontal lines that
intersect to form right angles.

2. Primary colors: Used primary colors-red, yellow, and blue-plus black and white.
These colors do not touch or blend, and straight lines typically divide the colors.

3. Thick strokes: Artworks are typically black lines in thick strokes to accentuate the
division between colors and boxes.

4. Geometric forms: Rectangle and square boxes are standard fixtures of the De Stijl
movement

MY INVOLVEMENT
➢ 3D Designing

The project is residence cum commercial building in which I was responsible to design the façade of the
building. The ground, first and second is for commercial unit and the remaining two floors is used for
residence purpose. So, the client’s requirement is that the building should look commercial as well as the
residence. It was the challenging part of the design. Another challenge that I felt during the design process
is that there are two buildings which are attached with our site in both sides. So, there are more restrictions
because of these challenges.
DESIGN PROCESS
After study about the site and client’s requirement. Firstly, I go with the research part of the design. For
research I followed different websites such as dezeen, archdaily, pinterest, etc. After going through the
similar project, then I started the number of conceptual sketches and started to do 3D in SketchUp.

Different conceptual sketches

an opening timeline should be provided.
➢ If the municipal designs cannot be managed on a single sheet, they are set up on two sheets.
➢ The first sheet should be organized with the sheets that provide more detailed information, such as

CLIENT’S REQUIREMENT
The client wanted the interiors to have a
minimalistic finish in a modern
approach. The existing rooms served as
the living room and a bedroom. And he
wanted the living room, family room and one bedroom at that space and also kind of wanted the whole
space used as a living room. So, I have prepared two options as per the client’s requirement.

MY INVOLVEMENT
➢ Interior Planning
➢ Interior Design

The two options as per the client’s requirement following are the two plans. First one which include Living
room, Bedroom and Family Room. And the second one which include living room.

31
INTERNSHIP REPORT/2022/PRAJINA TAKSARI

OPTION 1

LIVING ROOM
Living room is entered direct
from the entrance. Firstly,
furniture layout is done.
After that, the study of
dimension of furniture is
done. For interior paneling I
researched a material
through Merino Laminates.

FAMILY ROOM
Family room is connected directly
with the living room. The space
served as a private space. So, I have
designed the shelf which act as the
partition wall between living room
and family room. As following the
minimal concept. I have designed
the TV unit in Family room which
also served as the partition wall
between bedroom and family room.

BEDROOM
The TV unit which served as a
partition from bedroom the dressing
table is also attached to it which is
the part of the bedroom. And for the
partition between living room and
bedroom the wardrobe is designed
in such a way it will works as a
partition between them.

SITE VISITS
➢ I learned that the horizontal ties are called

These ties are used in RCC structures to hold the
main reinforcement bars.
➢ When the closed loops get used in beam it is
referred as stirrup and tie when is used in
column.

➢ Chairs cover are provided in in slab to maintain

gap between rods. When concrete is poured, it

gives load to the rods which may lead to less spacing in rods which doesn’t allow proper distribution
of aggregate below the rods.
➢ The beam, column, slab, foundation, RCC should be covered to prevent from rusting.

In this housing, we had studied the complete residence and

as well as the under-construction residence.
In complete residence, we had observed the interior planning
of the ground floor. One interesting thing we observed is that
at basement the storage unit is also used to hide the pipelines
of the building.

Storage and arrangement of pipelines at basement

KITCHEN
➢ Travertine marble flooring
➢ Use G profile for base counter and J profile for
overhead

CONCLUSION
The internship has been a really helpful course of time. The internship has been a really helpful period of
time. It helped me professionally as well as technically and academically.
I have acquired much of experience in designing, planning, and other architectural designs while working
as a trainee architect at Design Scape, guided and supported by senior architects. Everything that I learned,
theoretically, at college, never seemed to be enough as a whole different part of seeing it practically was
missing. I was able to see the design method at work here at Design Scape. Through my participation in
numerous projects, I was able to learn about various architectural designs.
Without these best 80 days of my architectural life, my knowledge of architecture would be incomplete. I
am very grateful to everyone who helped me learn during this period.
