FOLLOWING CHECKS ARE TO BE CARRIED OUT BY THE OOW PRIOR TO ANCHORING

1 Has an anchoring plan in respect of following been taken into account:

Ship’s speed reduced in ample time?

Direction and speed of wind, set and drift of current including tidal stream?

Traffic density and movement at approaches to the anchorage / port and at anchorage

Arrival report via VHF to port authority, pilots, VTS as necessary

2 Have Master, Duty Engineer and anchor party been informed of “stand-by” time for

anchoring?

3 Is following equipment / machinery made ready for anchoring?

Anchors cleared, windlasses switched on / tested

Suitable lights, shapes (daylight signals), flags and sound signaling equipment

Internal communication equipment (walkie talkies and Public Address system)

Are other checks and tests been done in accordance with NAV CL 09 – “Preparing the

TO BE ENSURED BY THE OOW AFTER ANCHORING AND DURING ANCHOR WATCH

1 Exhibit appropriate lights and shapes (daylight signals)

2 Position plotted at hourly intervals or more frequently as per Master’s orders

3 Port Control / Pilot Station informed about anchoring time and position

4 AIS status changed as necessary

5 Ship’s swinging circle drawn / marked on the Chart, found safe and monitored?
ARPA / Radar and GPS Anchor Watch feature utilized (Radars properly used during
6 anchor watch?

7 Efficient lookout maintained and traffic movement in the area monitored closely

8 Main engine readiness maintained as per Master’s orders

9 Under keel clearance (UKC) regularly checked and logged

Weather conditions closely monitored - Master immediately informed if weather
10 deteriorates

11 Security and anti-piracy precautions closely maintained

12 Listening watch on appropriate VHF channels continuously maintained
