STORM WATER DRAINAGE

DESIGN OF RCC DRAIN (INNER SIZE 1mx1m)

DISCHARGE CALCULATION
The total area consists of paved and turfed areas .Considering Rational Formula,
Discharge is calculated from the Relation as under

Q = 0.028 x P x Ic x A

Where
Q =Total Discharge in Cum/Sec.
P =Co-efficient Of run off for the catchment characteristics
Ic = Critical Intensity of rainfall in Cm/Hr
A = Area in hectare

(A)Design of RCC Drain (Running Full) for "One side of road"

Design length = 1350 M
Design slope = 0.0035 M
Road width (one Side) = 5.0 M
Water collection Range = 20.0 Hec
A ( Village area - One Side) = 20.0 Hec
A2 (Road area - One Side) = 1350x5/10000 0.675 Hec
Total area for One Side Drain (A)
Maximum Value Of P = 0.200 (as per IRC:SP:13-2004 Table No 4.1)
Q = 0.028 x P x Ic x A
Ic = 15 Cm/hr
A= 20.7
Q= 0.028x0.2x30.7x17 = 1.74 Cum/sec
As per manning's Formula, the permissible velocity for a drain is expressed as :
V =1/n (R2/3 x S1/2)
Where
V = Average velocity in metre per sec
n =Manning's roughness coefficient taken as 0.015 for RCC Drain
R = Hydraulic Radius in metre
R = A/P

Where
A= Area of water way 1 sqm
P= wetted perimeter in metre 3m
R= 0.9/2.8 0.33 m
S= Longitudinal Slope of Drain Has Been Planned as 0.35%
V= 1.88 m/s

Hence Discharge Through Rcc Drain

Q = AxV = 1.88 > 1.74cum/sec
