Part 1: Assessment and Observation

Analysis of case 4:
In this case study, it is asked to create a worksheet that may be used to test a student's basic
reading skills, including their ability to identify simple CVC words and sight words as well as
their comprehension of a text. I will choose a topic entitled “First Day to School”. See Appendix
1.

Worksheets can be used by teachers as an assessment tool to determine students' prior

knowledge, learning outcomes, and learning processes. They can also be used by students to
track their own learning progress. It is quite important to use such an assessment tool in the
current case because this will help the students to acquire the reading skills better. There are
several advantages in using worksheets as an assessment tool. It helps students to engage and
understand the difficult concepts. It helps to identify key gaps in the learning process, promotes
active learning and raises interest levels in the students.

On the other hand, worksheets by themselves cannot educate pupils as effectively as a live
teacher. Worksheets are designed to support teachers, not to take the role of teachers.
Moreover, worksheets need extra time in order to create one. The worksheet probably only
asks questions that the worksheet creator thinks are significant, which could be considered as a
disadvantage as well. The worksheet may not provide such information, so a student who has a
really original concept or interpretation of a concept may never get the chance to share it.
Therefore, worksheets are valid in the process of learning, but as the same time are reliable to
way teachers expose them and the content included.
