In this activity, my students are going to use Edublogs to create a blog where they can post articles of

writing samples and comment on each other’s work. There will be a Google Document of everyone’s link
that will be easily accessible all year for all students.
Activity
1. In History, students will be given prompts and
will need to use what we have learned in class
and what we know to answer from the
perspective of a child in that time period.
2. In English, students will utilize the seven
elements of a fictional story to develop their
own creative writing piece.
3. Students will be able to comment on another
student’s work to ask questions, compliment
points, or give suggestions.
4. This will be an on going activity and students
will be asked to add to their Fan.School
account over the year to act as a digital
writing journal for these subjects.

English lesson plan:

After reading the fictional literature selection,


students should access their Edublogs and work on
their own fictional story. Students will need to be sure
they include all of the characteristics of a fictional
story, e.g. defined characters, setting description that
utilizes vocabulary words, a problem for their
characters to solve, and a solution that teaches a
lesson. Fictional story characteristics will need to be
discussed during the initial read of the selection and
pausing to discuss the characteristic and how we can
identify it in the reading. Students will need to defend
their thinking by providing context clues or explicit
quotes to show their thinking. Students will be
expected to replicate this story structure in their own
Edublogs postings.

Comments on Edublogs will be open for students or


staff to ask questions, give feedback, and compliment
stories. Comments should only be used for these
purposes and should not distract from the overall goal
of the lesson.

History lesson plan:

After reviewing our previous lessons on ancient Rome


and Greece, students will need to compare and
contrast the two civilizations in an Edublogs post.
Both societies will need to be thoroughly reviewed
before students are given this assignment. Students
may access notes, PowerPoints, and the textbook to
make these comparisons and find connections
Web 2.0 Technology Students will use the Edublogs webpage to make their
own posts.

Mobile App Option 1. Edublogs does not have a mobile app but the
mobile website interface is nearly identical to the
desktop version and should be just as user friendly.

2. Students could create a similar blog on Google


Slides, a Docs file, or on Google Sites. They could
dedicate a single slide to every prompt and/or keep a
running record of their entries or create their own
website to function as a blog. All of these options are
available via Google PlayStore and the Apple App
Store.
