PHASE I: DSM REQUIREMENTS SPECIFICATION Version 4.0

APPENDIX V: PROJECT PLAN

This appendix contains a summary of the original project plan.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Document the technical requirements pertaining to up-front engineering (phase 0 and 1),
concurrent engineering, and product and process computerization for the design and
manufacture of Door Systems.

The Document should include but not limited to:

Door system concept creation.

• Door subsystems and engineering.

• Door design practices and standards.

• Analysis techniques and impact.

• Design Process and timing.

• DFA/DFM objectives for doors.

• Design software and tools.

• Improved Design methodology (proposed).

• Potential Benefits.

APPROACH

Interview CPC, BOC, T&B, EDS and GM/Design Staff personnel, and GM suppliers
involved with Door Design and manufacturing.

PHASE I: DSM REQUIREMENTS SPECIFICATION Version 4.0

• Analyze the various door design alternatives.

• Establish an improved door design methodology, which contains provisions for timely
verification, validation and capability for rapid software proto-typing.

• Identify what computer technologies are available which have the potential to
significantly improve the way in which door design and engineering are accomplished-

• Summarize and systematically document the current and new procedures,

• Define an inner-working of an integrated design and development scenario for a

typical door system.

• Enlist open areas for continuous improvements in future.

• Write Door ''Requirements Specification” Report.

• Write Door "Next Phase of Development1* Proposal.

ASSUMPTIONS:

The following considerations will be accounted for in developing the doors system methodology
document:

• create a more mature door design earlier in the design process.

• improve and upgrade the present door design sequences.

• ascertain a functional definition of door systems derived from QFD, CPC standards,
and competitive analysis.

• integrate the analysis into design and identify software packages which will assist us
in meeting fast-to-market and product quality objectives.

• identify and obtain consensus on all parameters which need to be considered in door
system styling and engineering in order to become competitive in program timing and
system value.

• provide a consistent design & analysis process environment

incorporate tools or techniques for capturing early manufacturing considerations

during early phase-0.

eliminate need for last-minute engineering or scheduling changes.

move the entire engineering process upfront to the starting point at design staff; such
as when a "trim show" inner panel is approved by the car groups, it not only
represents production intent, but it also reflects all parameters required to assure
manufacturability, buildability, durability and cost effectiveness.
