RESEARCH STUDIES USING YBOCS

Sudhir et al, (2021) conducted a study on "Parenting styles and their correlates in adolescents
diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive disorder". The study examined parenting styles in
adolescents with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and the relationship between parenting
styles, parental personality and severity of OCD. The Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale
(Y-BOCS) and the Screen for Childhood and Related Emotional Disorder (SCARED) were
administered to assess OCD and comorbid anxiety severity. Authoritarian and indulgent
parenting styles play an important role in adolescents diagnosed with OCD and having comorbid
anxiety.

Rajith & Krishnakumar, (2022) conducted a study on Clinical profile of obsessive-compulsive

disorder in children. Children's Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (CY-BOCS) was used
to assess the phenomenology and severity of OCD. Children with the onset of symptoms before
the age of 12 years were analyzed. Among the 46 children with OCD, 31 (16 boys and 15 girls)
had onset before the age of 12 years. The youngest child was 6 years old and in 29% of children,
OCD symptoms began before the age of 8 years. Common obsessions and compulsions were
obsessions of contamination (77.4%) and washing and cleaning compulsions (87.1%).
Miscellaneous obsessions and compulsions occurred in 25.8% and 77.4% of children,
respectively.

Davide et al, (2020) conducted a study on "The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on patients
with OCD: Effects of contamination symptoms and remission state before the quarantine in a
preliminary naturalistic study". In a group of patients with OCD who had completed treatment
for OCD before the quarantine, this study evaluated the changes on OCD symptoms during the
quarantine and the effects of contamination symptoms during the quarantine. The Yale-Brown
Obsessive Compulsive (Y-BOCS) Severity score, administered before the quarantine, was re-
administered after six weeks since the beginning of the complete lockdown. A significant
increase in obsession and compulsion severity emerged. Remission status on OCD symptoms
and having contamination symptoms before the quarantine were significantly associated with
more elevated OCD symptom worsening during the quarantine

Eisen et al, (2006) conducted a study on "Impact of obsessive-compulsive disorder on quality of
life" These findings indicate that all aspects of QOL are markedly affected in individuals with
OCD and are associated with OCD severity, particularly obsessional severity than compulsive
severity. Results suggest that QOL and psychosocial functioning begins to be more significantly
affected at YBOCS scores higher than 20. This score might be considered as a threshold criterion
for OCD for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition.
