CONSTRUCTION OF SALES GAS SUPPLY PIPELINE TO YANBU PLANT
PHASE-3 PROJECT
1. General
This specification covers all construction work required for the erection of
the Project and the necessary auxiliary plants complete in every respect and
suitable for satisfactory operation. The work comprises the manufacture or
supply of fully functional buildings and structures as they result from the
requirements connected with their purpose.
The various buildings and parts of the plant must form an architectural,
structural and functional unit with the other parts of the plant. Special
attention must be paid, in addition of basic design and construction, to the
aspects which are specific to country and climate.
The works shall be designed with due regard to the need for inspection,
cleaning and maintenance, and shall be capable of operating for prolonged
periods with the minimum of inspection, adjustment and maintenance.
All equipment performing similar duties shall be of a single type and make
in order to limit the stock of spare parts required.
All material shall be new and of the best quality suitable for working under
the conditions, variations in temperature and load encountered in service
without undue distortion or deterioration or the occurrence of undue stresses
in any part, such as to affect the efficiency and reliability of the plant.
The Contractor is not allowed to use the works, the material or furniture or
parts thereof for temporary purposes without the written consent of the
Employer and the Engineer.

Engineers shall have at least ten years’ experience of working in operational
desalination plants and be responsible for liaison with the Engineer’s
Representative at site.
The Contractor’s Engineers shall inspect, check and test the work and assure

PHASE-3 PROJECT
All designs shall be prepared in accordance with the very best current
engineering practice and with the requirements of this Specification and the
appropriate National Codes of Practice and Standards approved by the
Engineer in so far as they are applicable and up-to- date. Any departure
from the appropriate Codes and Standards must be fully explained in writing
for the Engineer’s approval.
The buildings, structures and roads within the site and their design and
detailing shall comply with and satisfy the fundamental technical and
operational requirements of the mechanical and electrical plant to be
accommodated therein and with the requirements of this specification.
All basements and ducts, trenches and/or tunnels inside buildings shall be
provided with suitable permanent pumps and sump pits to enable water

CONSTRUCTION OF SALES GAS SUPPLY PIPELINE TO YANBU PLANT
PHASE-3 PROJECT
All civil designs and drawings, inclusive all steel designs and drawings must
be approved by the requirements of the relevant authorities of the Kingdom
of Saudi Arabian and as per local order before start of construction. If the
Contractor and/or his Subcontractor(s) starts with the production of any
constructive elements, etc. off site and/or on site, before that approval was
given, all changes in Contractor’s work caused by disapproval and/or
remarks will be fully on Contractor’s risk.
All main routings (pipe racks /culverts /tunnels /trenches /ducts /duct banks)
for all lots (piping, electrical/cabling, etc.) shall be submitted by the
Contractor for approval by the Engineer.
The Bidder has to show that his offer is complete and fulfilling all
requirements described in Part A of the Tender Documents.
If dimensions /measure are given in the Tender, they indicate the minimum

Requirements
The requirements listed here regard the function of the building and/or
construction sections will take precedence over the two following parts
(scope and special design requirements).
Scope
In this part the service to be rendered for each building will be described,
and for the qualitative minimum requirements reference will in each case be
made to the Volume VII, Part PG-B0 “General Technical Requirements”.
The Contractor may still effect alterations within the framework of these
minimum requirements as regards function and quality in the course of the
detail planning with the Engineer’s approval.

CONSTRUCTION OF SALES GAS SUPPLY PIPELINE TO YANBU PLANT
PHASE-3 PROJECT
The Contractor is responsible for carrying out all investigations which are
considered necessary for the verification of the above reports and for the
proper design, construction and performance of the plant.
Details of the required surveys and studies are specified in Part PG-B0.11
of Volume VII.
The entire site shall be filled up to -0.3 m (relative levels to final site
datum).
The finished ground floor slab levels of buildings shall be around 0.2 m
above site datum.

PHASE-3 PROJECT
All roads shall have sidewalks (interlocking pavement) on both sides of the
road with a minimum width of 150 cm each.
The above-mentioned roads and the width of the roads are to be considered
as minimum requirements. They have to be verified by the Contractor in his
detailed design and have to be corrected as necessary.
The area around the buildings which are used infrequently, the laydown
areas for small loads, the footpaths, the parking areas, etc. shall be paved
with interlocking concrete blocks.

PHASE-3 PROJECT
The area of the site which is not covered by buildings, structures, roads and
pavings, plants, etc. shall be treated to prevent erosion.
Road signs, traffic signs, road surface marking and guard rails shall be
provided as per the local police requirements for traffic industrial areas.
The roads and pavings shall be laid to falls leading the storm water to
gullies or catch pits.
For dimensioning the roads and pavings, the actual traffic will have to be
considered, however a minimum standard truck SLW 60 (according to DIN
1072) shall be considered for dimensioning the roads.
For the entire plant, a complete stormwater drainage system is required. The
stormwater drainage system shall be based on the drainage of all areas (built
up, paved or unpaved areas) within the plant limits with final plant area
gradings.
