. The period of oscillation, T is a measure of the inertia of the load. A larger inertia means it is more difficult for the load to start or stop, thus making the time for one oscillation, T1 longer. Inertial balance, G-clamp, 3 cylindrical masses of 250g and stop watch To study .. . depends on .

An inertial balance is clamped tightly and horizontally. An empty holder is displaced and released so that it oscillates horizontally. A cylindrical mass of 250g is inserted in a provided hole of the holder. The holder is displaced and released so that it oscillates horizontally. Time, t1 for 10 complete oscillations is measured. Record the reading. Time t2 for another 10 complete oscillations is measured. Record the reading. The average of t1 and t2 is calculated and record as t. The period of oscillation, T is calculated using formula T=t/10. Step number 3 till 8 are repeated for two additional cylindrical masses of 250g.

Analysing data Graph

1.Plot the graph of period, T2 against mass

Discussion

Conclusion Precaution 1. Position of eyes must perpendicular to the scales of reading to avoid parallax error. 2. Repeat the measurement to get average reading.
