The Cruelty of Spaniards

The core reason why Filipino Revolution happened against Spain Colonization in the
Philippines was because of the abuses of the Spanish government officials to Filipinos. They abused
their powers to rule the country at the time. The Polo y servicio whereas all Filipino men ages around
16 -60 are all forced to heavy work such as roads, churches, bridges, schools, and other public
structures despite of hazardous and unhealthy conditions.

The abuses of Spaniards to Filipinos were the main inspiration to Rizal for his two famous
novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibuterismo. Noli Me Tangere shows Filipinos lives during Spanish
colonial period and cries and woes against abusive officials, and what religion and belief can do to
our everyday lives. El Filibusterismo was dedicated to the 3 martyr priests: Mariano Gomez, Jose
Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora, who were executed by the Spaniards.
