I. Project Title:
PROJECT MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY

EMPOWERING STUDENTS THROUGH MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY (MIL)

II. Rationale/Project Description:

Empowerment of students through Media and Information Literacy (MIL) is an
important prerequisite for fostering equitable access to information and knowledge
and promoting free, independent and pluralistic media and information systems.

Media and Information Literacy recognizes the primary role of information and
media in our everyday lives. It lies at the core of freedom of expression and
information - since it empowers citizens to understand the functions of media and
other information providers, to critically evaluate their content, and to make
informed decisions as users and producer of information and media content.

In line with this, the proponents would like to build a website that all students
can easily access and view its daily and trending social issues for them to be aware
in media literacy specially in understanding the nature and extent of the information
needed in making themselves updated and generalizing of information sources to
increase familiarity with trending social issues. The website is composed of
registration of students using their LRN ID number. The proponents would like also
to establish a Media Information Literacy building composed of computers and
internet for Online Public Access System for students of Alabat. The MIL building can
also be used in practical research subjects upon registering their research title to
avoid duplicating of research title with other courses. They can also surf a valid
information of the latest trends and issues so that the student is able to determine
reliability, accuracy, validity, authority, timeliness, and point of view or bias of
information found. It will also serves as the E-library of the school for them to adopt
a paperless learning strategy.

The proponents also believe that this project will make the students understand
the importance of being a part of societal issues, aware technological trends and
aware of the local and national topic and as well as their responsibility as students
to our beloved country.
