Communication
Communication, the key to a successful relationship, differentiates us from animals and it improves
over time.

How Do We Get from Signals to Telephone?

Communication is one of the reasons for the many things that distinguish us from animals. Smoke
signals, a visual communication used to get attention, are the first ever recorded long-distance
communication. Historical evidence led us to the fact that the first smoke signals were used in China
in 200BC. Later, a new communication method, pigeons, were used. Pigeons have this natural
homing ability that makes them effective as a messenger. A
familiar communication method, pony express, was used
back in the day. Just like mailing but instead of cars or bikes,
they used horses for transportation. It was 1790 in France
when Claude Chappe and his brothers developed this
communication method, the semaphore flag, a hand-held flag
that’s cut diagonally red and yellow. Telegraph is the first
communication device to involve
electricity. It uses morse code,
information was sent by making and
breaking an electrical connection. This
device was used from the 1840s until the ^ Face to face communication, happening in real time
late 20th century. In the late 1920s people
started to use radios. Then people start using telephone, a synchronous
communication device, where we can still find these days in offices or
workplaces.

^ Claude Chappe who Century, a period of one hundred years

developed the Distinguish, recognize or treat as different
semaphore flag
Synchronous, existing or occurring at the same time

Does Faster Communication Lead to The Loss of Social Etiquette?

Just like us, technologies improve. In 1876 telephone was
invented, satellite was launched in 1962. Next cell phones
were launched (in 1980). In the race to improve
technologies, we have forgotten the basics of social
etiquette and real human closeness. Technologies have
made communication so much faster. But it widened the gap
between the young and the old. Social media are new doors
to communication. People are too busy, with their social
media, they forgot simple rules of social interactions.
^ in person emotion and experiences replace by the virtual world
These things we use online, acronyms names,
emoticons, and emojis, replace live, in-person
emotions, and experiences. Misused technological advances can lead to the loss of social etiquette.

etiquette, customs that control how a responsible individual should behave in the society
acronyms, initial letters of some words and pronounced as a word

Emojis Are New Alphabets

Sentences that build up chemistry are usually replaced by emojis. Emoji is an example of the
improvement of technologies and human brains. The question is, how do we get from cave drawings
to emojis? First, it started 17300 years ago. Caveman draw, they express their feeling by drawing
instead of words, this drawing is called Cave art. Soon, for the first time, 5000 years ago, we wrote
our thought. Instead of pictures, they use symbols for sounds. It first starts with something
complicated than after it got more popular, it became something simpler. In the late 20th century,
comic books become a new integrated language, because it’s visual yet textual. This world has so
many languages, but did you know emoji is the common ground? It’s universal, almost everyone can
understand emojis. Emojis are like the new alphabet. Again, things change, back in the day it would
be so weird or childish to use cartoons after every sentence but now, it’s so normal.

Conclusion
Changes happen, in this matter, technologies changes. These changes help people improve their
lives, communications are faster, jobs were done more efficiently, and so much more.
