Most passengers became seasick except for Miss Minton, Maia, and Clovis. 2) Clovis had been adopted by the Goodleys and taught to act. He became upset because he had a bruise on his chin and was afraid that his voice would crack, causing the Goodleys to send him away. 3) Maia was amazed by the beauty and diversity of plant and animal life along the Amazon River, which overturned her initial negative stereotypes of the jungle.
