Technical Drafting
- Tech draft or drafting is the act and discipline of composing drawings that usually communicate how something
functions or is constructed.
- Is essential for communicating ideas in industry and engineering.

What is the industry standard software used for CAD?

- AutoCAD

Who Is the creator of AutoCAD?

- Autodesk

Drafter, Draftperson, or Draftman

- Is a person who makes a drawing (Technical or expressive)

METHOD OF DRAFTING

SKETCHING
- Is a quickly executed, freehand drawing that is usually not intended as a finished work.

MANUAL OR BY INSTRUMENT
- The basic drafting procedure is to place a piece of paper (or other material) on a smooth surface with a right
angle corners and straight sides typically a drawing board.

COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN

- The mechanics of the drafting task largely been automated and accelerated through the use of computer aided
design system (CAD)

TWO TYPES OF COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN

- Two dimensions (2D)
- Three dimension (3D)

AUTOCAD WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Menu Browser
- Is a client software that allows users to read or scan document on the world wide web.

Quick Access toolbar

- Provide direct access to a common or defined set of a commands like new, open, save, and plot.
- Located along the top of the application window (above or below the ribbon)

Filename
- The name of the current file you are working on.
- Located on the top middle of the working environment. filename
Menu Bar
- The horizontal stri across the top of an application window
Home Insert Annotate Render View Manage Plug-ins Autodesk 360

Search box
- Is a tool that allows you to search for a particular data or document in a help file or to the web
- Located beside the file name

Toolbar / Ribbon
- Provide a single, compact placements for operations/ tools that relevant to the current workplace.

Command line bar

- Is where you enter the commands from the keyboard and where the prompts are displayed.

Tray settings/ Info Bar

- Quickly search for a variety of information sources, access to products updates, and announcement, and save
topics in the information center.

UCS (User Co-ordinate System)

- Is found at the bottom left- hand corner of the AutoCAD drawing window.

WCS (World Co-ordinate System)

- By default when you start a new (blank) drawing you use the world coordinate system (WCS). This indicates your
(0,0,0) point.

Working/ Drawing Area

- is on a real scale, which means the drawing scale is 1:1 scale
Crosshair
- is a type of cursor
- consist two line that intersect
- use to locate points
- use to select object in your drawing

AutoCAD co-ordinate system

- it is to understand how co-ordinates work in AutoCAD to fully utilize the program.

TWO TYPES OF CO-ORDINATE

Cartesian Co-ordinate system

- is the position standard Co-ordinate system.
- Position or a point can be described by its distance from two axes , X and Y.

Polar Co-ordinate system

- used when you need to draw the next points at a specific angle.

OBJECT SELECTION
- represent the current selection in a window.
- Sets you identify the subject yourself just by drawing a rough selection around it.

10 WAYS TO USE AUTOCAD OBJECT SELECTION

Pick Single
- You can pick single object when autocad asks you to select object.

Window
- Can define a window selection by clicking to two points
- Click the first point on the leftside and 2nd points on the right side
- This will select elements inside the window.

Cross Window
- Basically if your window selection defined from right to left, then it will be cross window selection. It
will select all elements inside and touching the window.
Fence
- You can select drawing elements by defining ‘a fence’ that touched objects you wanted. Just type F
then [enter] to activate it. After you finish defining your fence, press [enter] to select.

Window Polygon
- This option behave as window selection, but you can define unlimited points for that window. Just type
WP then [enter] to activate it. All elements inside the window will be selected.

Crossing Polygon
- Similar to cross window selection. CP

Touching Objects
- When AutoCAD ask you to select object, type ‘FS then [enter]. We use ‘ for transparent use. Pick your
object, then all objects touching it will be selected.

Cycle Overlapping Objects

- If you have many overlapped drawing elements or close to each other, and you are too lazy to zoom in,
you can cycle between them by pressing [shift] + [space]. Hold your [shift] key, and press [space]
several times until you found your object. Release your keyboard key, then click your mouse.

Select Previous Selection or Last Object

- want to select your previous selection, just type P then [enter] when AutoCAD ask you to do selection
- last object created, Either the last drawn or result from modify operations such as copy. Type L then [enter]

Remove/Add
- You can do this by holding [shift] and select object you want to exclude. OR, you can type R then [enter] to
switch to remove mode.
TYPES OF COMMANDS

- LINE OR L [ENTER]

The Rectangle Command

This command will make a rectangle in AutoCAD.
- RECTANGLE or REC [ENTER]

The Circle Command

It is the command used for making a circle in AutoCAD.
- CIRCLE or C [ENTER]

- POLYGON or POL [ENTER]

The Polyline Command

- PL [ENTER]

The Arc Command

along a number of control points
- SPLINE OR SPL [ENTER]

The Copy Command

The copy command can be used to create one or more duplicates of any drawing object you have previously created.
- COPY or CO [ENTER]

The Mirror Command

The Mirror Command allows you to mirror selected objects in your drawing by picking them and then defining the
position of an imaginary mirror line using two points.

- MIRROR or MI [ENTER]

The Offset Command

The offset command creates a new object parallel to or concentric with a selected object
- OFFSET or O [ENTER]

The Move Command

The move command works in a similar way to the copy command exept that no copy is made, the selected object(s) is
simply moved from one location to another
- MOVE or M [ENTER]

The Rotate Command

The Rotate command allows an object or objects to be rotated about a point selected by the user. AutoCAD
