HEARTS OF THE BELIEVERS BEFORE THE MUSHAF
Abu Darda reported: The Messenger of Allah SAW said,
“The scholars are the successors of the prophets. Verily,
the prophets do not pass on gold and silver coins, but
rather they only impart knowledge.”

MEDIUM IN THE PRESERVATION OF THE QURAN?

WHAT IS THE VIRTUE OF AUDITORY TRANSMISSION
BEING THE PRIMARY SOURCE OF PRESERVATION?
Difficult to get corrupted. One might be able to
edit a page and shared many of the copy >> one
can’t edit what was in the heart of other people.
When the Birmingham mushaf were found and
dated being the eldest copy of Quran; but it
doesn’t matter the date of the copy, Muslim
didn’t based on the authencity, the validity of
the written copy. It was based on what has
been transpired from memorization, audible
transmission.
If it was written for the unlettered group of
people, it won’t be productive, sustainable,
attractive to the people.
WHAT HAPPEN TO THE 70 QARIS SENT BY
RASULULLAH SAW TO TEACH THE PAGANS QURAN?
Narrated `Asim:
I asked Anas about the Qunut (i.e. invocation in the
prayer). Anas said, "It should be recited before
bowing." I said, "So-and-so claims that you say that it
should be recited after bowing." He replied, "He is
mistaken." Then Anas narrated to us that the Prophet
(‫ )ﷺ‬invoked evil on the tribe of Bani-Sulaim for one
month after bowing. ' Anas Further said, "The Prophet
(‫ )ﷺ‬had sent 40 or 70 Qaris (i.e. men well versed in the
knowledge of the Qur'an) to some pagans, but the
latter struggled with them and martyred them, although
there was a peace pact between them and the Prophet
(‫ )ﷺ‬I had never seen the Prophet so sorry and worried
about anybody as he was about them.

WHAT ARE THE STAGES OF THE QURAN PRESERVATION?
WHAT ARE BEING PRESERVED W.R.T THE QURAN?
Stages of Preservations:
During the Prophet SAW
During Abu Bakr As-Siddiq RA
During Uthman Al-Affan RA
Everything was being preserved, i.e. the recitation, the
meaning and the reason of revelations of the Quran
WHY WAS THE PRESERVATION NOT IN WRITTEN FORM?
The Arabs were unlettered, umiyyeen; couldn’t read /
write, but that doesn't mean they do not have
understanding.
Unlettered doesn’t mean illiterate, as poetries was
famous during that era.
Only few people who were lettered (around 17
people)
Though the Arab were unlettered, they were prolific
in memorizing e.g. the poets.
There’s no fiction that the people can’t memorize,
understand language just by listening, no
requirement to read.
WHAT IS THE VIRTUE RASULULLAH SAW BEING
UNLETTERED, AL-’ARAF 7:158?
‫ُق ۡل َٰٓيَأُّيَه ا ٱلَّناُس ِإِّني َرُس وُل ٱلَّلِه ِإَلۡي ُكۡم َجِم يًع ا ٱَّلِذي َلُه ۥ ُم ۡلُك‬
‫ٱلَّس َٰم َٰو ِت َو ٱَأۡلۡرِۖض ٓاَل ِإَٰل َه ِإاَّل ُه َو ُيۡحِي َو ُيِم يُۖت َفَٔـ اِم ُنوْا ِبٱلَّلِه َوَرُس وِلِه‬
‫ٱلَّنِبِّي ٱُأۡلِّم ِّي ٱَّلِذي ُيۡؤ ِم ُن ِبٱلَّلِه ۦ َو َك ِلَٰم ِتِهۦ َو ٱَّتِبُعوُه َلَع َّلُكۡم َتۡه َتُدوَن‬
Say [O Prophet], “O people, I am the Messenger of Allah
to you all. To Him belongs the dominion of the heavens
and earth; none has the right to be worshiped except
Him; He gives life and causes death.” So believe in Allah
and His Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, who believes
in Allah and His words, and follow him, so that you may
be guided.
They were who they were, unlettered, and Rasulullah
SAW was one of them and shared the same
attributes like them.
Rasulullah SAW learned and taught based on the
circumstances of that time.

HOW DO SALAH CONNECTED TO THE PRESERVATION OF THE QURAN?
As a command / order from Allah before the migration
(Al-Muzammil 73:2-3) i.e. 2 prayers solat in the middle
of the night.
Not many verses were revealed then, Rasulullah SAW
repeated what has been revealed to him SAW over and
over again ⇒ method of memorization. (repetition in
years)
The people during that era listened to Rasulullah SAW
recitation over and over again, and with their prolific
memorization, they memorised the Quran.
Opportunity to ponder upon the Quran in Salah, with
repetition over hours from the limited verses.
THE 2ND ERA DURING ABU BAKR RA. QURAN WAS IN WRITTEN
FORM (GATHERING OF PAGES, SUHUF). WAS IT A FORM OF BID’AH?
In the 12th year after Hijrah, 70 of huffaz were killed in
the Battle of Yamamah.
Umar RA pitched the idea of the Quran to be collected
in a written form, gathering of pages (suhuf) and kept
safe.
Abu Bakr RA was overwhelmed for he didn’t want to do
something that was not done by the Messenger of Allah
SAW ⇒ proof Quran during his SAW era was not written.
It wasn’t bid’ah ⇒ good for ummah, for preservation,
and for public benefit.
Allah SWT open Abu Bakr RA heart and accepted the
idea. He approached Zayd ibn Thabit to lead the
gathering and compilation.
Zayd ibn Thabit was overwhelmed, would rather move
mountain. Eventually, Zayd agreed.
WHAT WAS THE LAST VERSES THAT ZAYD MANAGED TO
COMPILE AFTER GOING THROUGH HIS ROBUST PROCESS?
The last two verses of Surah At-Tur, with Khuzaimah ibn Thabit
[Sahih Bukhari]

WHAT IS THE INSIGHTS ON THE QURAN BEING
WRITTEN DURING THE PROPHET SAW ERA?
The earliest insight of Quran being written was regarding
the Islam of Umar Al-Khattab RA when he read the
parchment with Surah Ta-Ha 1-5 written on it.
The story is debated among scholars because of the
issue of isnaad, however leeway is being given
because it’s not the topic of halal and haram.
If this story is acceptable, this is the first insight of the
Quran being written.
It was possible the Quran was written by few who
could read and write, but no emphasis on this being
the mode of the preservations.
Zayd ibn Thabit [as reported by Bukhari], the Prophet SAW
would call upon Zayd when verses were being revealed
and asked to bring the writing instruments back then. Zayd
reported being norm to write down when Prophet SAW
orally recited to him and he SAW would ask Zayd to recite
back to ensure the recitation is correct.
WHY WAS ZAYD BEING CHOSEN TO LEAD?
He was the Prophet SAW scriber
He memorized the Quran
He developed a reputation among the Companions
being a reference when it came to Quran
Many scholars affirmed that Zayd was present during
the final revision of the Quran was done between
Jibreel RA and Rasulullah SAW, final ramadhan - Zayd
have knowledge what was Quran and what was being
abrogated and wasn’t Quran before the passing of
Rasulullah SAW
Zayd came up with trustworthy (robust) process:
Not relied solely on his memories alone
He committed and stipulated two people beside himself
has memorized the verse that would be included
The memorization had to be directly from the Prophet

HADITH #1 - DEEDS ARE BY INTENTION
DESIRING WORLDLY REWARD
If one person do something, desiring the worldly
reward, does that make he/she shirk e.g. keeping ties
with the family will get extended life?
Its' not shirk - reward of Hereafter depends on how
much intention was to Allah.
Imam Ahmad fatwa w.r.t to a person who do jihad for
ghanimah, said, ‘he rewards would be proportioned to
the level of intentions he left for hereafter’
‫َف َم ْن َك ا َنْت ِه ْجَر ُتُه إ ىَل ِهَّللا‬
‫َو َرُس وِلِه َف ِه ْجَر ُتُه إ ىَل ِهَّللا َو َرُس وِلِه‬
Does this part of the hadith a repetition?
These are not repetitive.
The ‫ َف‬is al-faa al-tafsirriyah; and expanding
understanding, an expansion that connected to the
previous wordings, in order to explain the intent of the
meaning that has been established by the text before it
‫َأ‬
‫َو َم ْن َك ا َنْت ِه ْجَر ُتُه ِلُد ْن َي ا ُيِص ي ُب َه ا ْو‬
‫ا ْم َر َأٍة َي ْن ِك ُح َه ا َف ِه ْجَر ُتُه إ ىَل َم ا َه ا َجَر إ َلْي ِه‬
Is Rasulullah SAW being repetitive again? What is the
Arabic form of rulings to explain the eloquency of the
hadith?
If sentence is carrying a condition and a result, and
the statement is repeated, than the condition
connected to the condition will be different to the
condition connected to the result.

DESIRING ALLAH'S REWARDS
If one do something in order to get Allah’s reward or
seeking safety from Allah’s punishment, rather than do
something for Allah, is that possible?
Intend what Allah has offered is not wrong.
An-Nisa 4:134
‫َّم ن َك اَن ُيِريُد َثَو اَب ٱلُّد ۡنَي ا َف ِع نَد ٱلَّلِه َثَو اُب ٱلُّد ۡنَي ا َو ٱٓأۡلِخ َرِۚة َو َك اَن‬
‫ٱلَّلُه َس ِم يَۢع ا َبِص يٗر ا‬
Whoever seeks the reward of this world, then with
Allah is the reward of this world and of the Hereafter,
and Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.
Make our intention to be close to Allah.
HIJRA
What is hijra? How do one make hijrah to Allah and His
Messenger?
Hijrah: abstention from involvement of
something, leaving something; migration →
leave something to something else.
Impure intention to pure intention.
In following Rasulullah SAW sunnah in daily life.
From difficulty to lesser difficulty, for practising
religion safely
