Survey Questionnaire

This research and its data-gathering methods were for the purpose of uncovering the

effects of working a part-time job on the senior high school students at Arellano University Jose

Abad Santos Campus. The instrument used for gathering data was an online survey, which was

distributed to the intended respondents of this study—the senior high school population of

Arellano University Jose Abad Santos Campus. The aforementioned online form consisted of

open-ended questions relating to why they think students opt for part-time jobs instead of only

focusing on academics, factors affecting their decision to work while pursuing education, and

more. This survey not only collected data from working students, but also thoughts, feelings,

opinions, and input from their non-working peers. These are the following questions:

1. Why do students decide to seek a part- time employment instead of prioritizing their

education?

2. If so, do you think that they are more interested working a part- time job instead of

pursuing their education?

3. Do you think financial issues are the main cause of part-time employment? If not, please

list down other causes you think might aid in part-time employment of students:

4. Do you think students should prioritize their education over working part-time?

5. Alternatively, do you believe that if a student does prioritize their studies, that they

should quit their part-time job?

6. What do you think are the environmental factors will affect a student to work a part-time

job?
7. What do you think are the other factors that affect a student’s choice to prioritize working

as a part-time employee?

8. What are your thoughts on students dropping out of school to work full-time and ignoring

their education?

9. What do you think working part-time while studying affects a student’s schedule and

overall well-being?

10. What conclusions can you draw from the impact of part-time jobs on a student's life?

Survey Report

A group of researchers of grade 11-HUMSS 6 in Arellano University Jose Abad Santos

Campus conducted a survey during the school year 2021-2022. This survey’s respondents
included members of the senior high school population of Arellano University Jose Abad Santos,
which answered questions involving their opinions and input on the effects of part-time jobs on
working students.

The specific population is reduced to a sample size of 20. Participants were chosen to represent
the study's target population. Participants were picked independently of gender, socioeconomic
position, or point of view, as long as they were Arellano University- Jose Abad Santos Campus
students. The researchers, on the other hand, referred students from the Humanities and Social
Sciences strand. Moreover, the researchers have successfully utilized this sampling technique,
and sees it as quite effective in contributing with the study.

The questionnaire was conducted online and spread through referrals by recruited participants of
the research.

The first section of the survey included dichotomous questions, where the respondents answered
50% yes to the question, “Do you think that they are more interested working a part- time job
instead of pursuing their education [due to financial or other personal reasons]?”:
87.5% saying yes to the question, “Do you think students should prioritize their education over
working part-time?”:

and a whopping 100% saying yes to the question “do you believe that if a student does prioritize
their studies, that they should quit their part-time job?”

The second section of the survey included open-ended questions which asked for the opinions of
the respondents. In the question, “Why do students decide to seek a part- time employment
instead of prioritizing their education?” answers vary from to help with finances in the family,
to earn extra income, to help with future plans like college to becoming more responsible,
disciplined, self-confident, and experienced.
The answers to the question “Do you think financial issues are the main cause of part-time
employment? If not, please list down other causes you think might aid in part-time employment
of students” all agreed that financial issues either wholly are the reason working students choose
to work a job or it is a big part of the reason why working a job while studying is an option.

When asked what they think are the environmental factors that affect students deciding to work
part-time, responses varied from receding economy, light and noise pollution, poverty, low
household income, treatment from coworkers, frequency of natural disasters, and the amount of
time one has.

statistical chances of earning more, that it is their life and they can choose to work instead of
study, and pity that they are forced to give up their education.
