Background information Gender roles have been a part of many cultures and history for the
longest time.
Thesis Statement Gender roles should not be imposed because they create harmful
stereotypes, give limitations, and promote inequality, however
there are many arguments that oppose this statement.

Topic Sentence Enforcing roles based on gender creates harmful stereotypes for all,
(Body Paragraph 1) which create bias and prejudice in our society.

Topic Sentence Moreover, with gender roles, limitations are enforced on people,
(Body Paragraph 2) instantly deciding what one can or cannot do.

Topic Sentence In addition to this, gender roles encourage inequality and solidify
(Body Paragraph 3) borders between genders.

Counterargument 1 Gender roles do not clarify our purpose and what we


should do with our life.
Refutation for Counterargument 1 As humans we all have our own will, therefore we decide
our own purpose.
Counterargument 2 We should follow the roles that gender sets for us
because it is tradition.
Refutation for Counterargument 2 Not all traditions are good, so we should learn from our
misbeliefs and move past them to develop.
Counterargument 3 Gender roles creates a stable society, with a defined
social hierarchy.
Refutation for Counterargument 3 Gender roles only impose unjust treatment towards
others, through putting down and discriminating others
with its hierarchy.
