The order of precedence of the applicable codes, standards and specifications for
Civil & Structural & Architectural shall be as follows,

2) The respective Singapore National codes have been fully met, SES
need not be implemented. The Singapore National Codes does not
address certain aspects of a safe and quality design, in other
words, there is a gap that SES shall bridge and shall implement and
comply to the SES.
3. DEFINITIONS
4.1 COMPANY, PURCHASER and ENGINEER shall have the right to inspect the
erection operations at any time for conformance with the requirements of this
specification, including but not limited to all materials, workmanship,
plumbness, high strength bolting, field welds and touch-up coating.
4.3 PURCHASER and ENGINEER may reject any improper, inferior, defective, or
unsuitable materials, installations, and workmanship of ERECTOR. Any
rejected materials, installation and workmanship shall be repaired or replaced
by ERECTOR per ENGINEER’s instruction at ERECTOR’s expense.
4.4 ERECTOR shall be solely responsible for the quality control of all ERECTOR
supplied materials, installations, and workmanship, including those items or
installation supplied by any of the ERECTOR’s subcontractors or vendors.
4.5 ERECTOR shall provide a written Quality Control Program and inspection
procedure document which shall provide details of how compliance with the
requirements of this specification and the shop and erection drawings shall
be achieved.
4.6 The Inspection Test Plan shall be provided for review and approval of
PURCHASER.
4.9 All welding shall be inspected in accordance with AWS D1.1. Welding
inspectors shall be qualified and certified as AWS Certified Welding
Inspectors in accordance with the provisions of AWS D1.1M or shall be
trained by and working under the supervision of an AWS Certified Welding
Inspector.
4.11 ERECTOR shall provide all inspection tools and shall provide inspection
access facilities such as platforms, ladders, and scaffolds as requested by
PURCHASER.
4.12 Inspection tools and tool calibration records shall be maintained and available
for examination by PURCHASER.
5. SUBMITTALS
6. PERFORMANCES REQUIREMENTS
6.1 General
6.2 Safety
6.2.1 ERECTOR shall provide written safety program that addresses the
safety measures to be taken during steel erection work.
6.2.2 ERECTOR’s safety program shall provide a detailed description of how
ERECTOR will prevent injury to all personnel affected by ERECTOR’s
operations. The safety program shall be in accordance with the
requirements of the following documents:
a. Contract,
b. AISC 303,
c. AISC Steel Construction Manual,
d. Applicable portions of OSHA 29 CFR Part 1910 and Part 1926,
e. Any other applicable local requirements
6.2.3 At a minimum, the safety program shall place particular emphasis on the
following aspects:
a. Initial orientation and education in safety,
b. Accident prevention,
c. Fall prevention,
d. Ground-level preassembly to minimize elevated erection,
e. Hole covers and opening barriers,
f. Access control to incomplete areas of erection,
g. Lifting plans and hoisting procedures.
6.3.1 ERECTOR shall prepare a written assembly lift plan for assemblies
larger than 15 m in one direction, larger than 185 m2 in the plan area,
greater than 500 KN or when required by the contract documents.
6.3.2 The assembly lift plan shall demonstrate that the proposed lift shall be
performed safely and that the assemblies being lifted will remain free
from distortion or undue bending and will maintain structural integrity
during the lift.
6.3.3 The assembly lift plan shall contain detailed data on the extent of the
lifted assembly, its weights, the structural calculations that prove
structural stability of the assembled components during lifting operations,
verification of the capacity capabilities for any cranes utilized in the lift,
location and positioning of the cranes, and a description of the rigging to
be utilized.
6.3.4 Review of the assembly lift plan by PURCHASER does not relieve the
ERECTOR’s responsibility for the safe erection and/ or lifting of any
component, structural assembly, or any other item.
6.4 Materials
6.5.1 All materials shall be received, unloaded, stored, and otherwise handled
in a manner that prevents distortion, deterioration, damage, or staining.
7. ERECTION
7.1 General
7.1.4 Installation of gratings and floor plates shall be in accordance with SES
B02-S05 and N00-B-1001-DR~N00-B-1022-DR.
7.1.5 ERECTOR shall maintain the job site in a clean and safe condition at all
times and shall properly dispose of, off the premises, all crating, waste
materials, and other refuse that has accumulated as a result of
ERECTOR’s activities.
7.1.6 Loose timbers, metal sheeting, bolt buckles, tools, debris, and temporary
scaffolding shall be kept restrained or removed from work areas.
7.1.9 Temporary erection loads or permanent loads shall not be placed on any
incomplete portions of the structure being erected unless ERECTOR can
demonstrate by analysis that the contemplated action is safe.
7.1.13 ERECTOR shall keep a daily record, by piece number, of all material
erected.
7.1.14 Before commencing work, ERECTOR shall check foundations and other
connection points to confirm their location, orientation, elevation, and
condition.
7.2.2 ERECTOR shall specify, install and locate adequate temporary bracing
and/ or guy cables to ensure stability of structure under a combination of
construction and wind loads without overstressing any structural member.
This requirement shall also apply to partially completed structural
assemblies.
7.2.3 The structure shall be plumbed, leveled, and braced before any final
bolted or welded connections are made and before grouting of base
plates.
7.3.2 The top of bearing surfaces and the bottom of base plates shall be
cleaned.
7.3.3 Column base plates shall be set and shimmed to correct positions and
elevation shown on the erection drawing using four (4) shim packs, one
(1) at each corner of the baseplate.
7.3.4 ERECTOR shall provide shim plates and wedges. Shim plates shall

base plates have been grouted and the grout has sufficiently set in
accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations.
7.3.8 The erection of other portions of structural steel shall commence only
when grouting and anchors have obtained sufficient strength to
adequately support all the loads imposed due to the erection operation.
Temporary bracings and/or guys shall be provided to retain the column in
position during this period.
7.4.1 Each part of a structure shall be properly aligned before completing field
connections.
7.4.2 All members in completed frames shall be true to line and free from
bends, twists, and open joints.
7.4.3 Rail joints shall be tight and provide for a smooth transfer of the
wheelfrom one rail to another.
7.5.1 Fit-up bolts and drift pins shall not be used to bring improperly fabricated
members and parts into place (springing).
7.5.2 Drift pins shall not be driven with such a force as to damage adjacent
metal areas.
7.5.3 Field correction of fabricated steel by gas cutting is not permitted without
prior approval of PURCHASER.
7.6.1 Erection tolerances shall be in accordance with AISC 303 and the
specific requirements of this specification.
8. CONNECTIONS
8.1 General
8.1.2 All field connections shall be bolted unless specifically noted otherwise
on the erection drawings.
8.2.1 All bolts shall be as noted on the erection drawings, or other contract
documents.
8.2.2 Bolt assemblies shall be protected from dirt and moisture in closed
containers at the site of installation. Only as many fastener components
as are anticipated to be installed during the work shift shall be taken from
protected storage. Bolt assemblies that are not incorporated into the
work shall be returned to protected storage at the end of the work shift.
8.2.4 Where structural joints are made using high-strength bolt assemblies, the
materials, bolt components, joint type, use of washer, bolt installation,
method of pretensioning to be used, and inspection methods shall
conform to shop/erection drawings, RCSC and the contract documents.
8.2.6 Mechanically galvanized bolts and nuts shall not be intermixed with hot-
dip galvanized bolts and nuts.
8.2.7 ASTM A 490M ,galvanized A 325M bolts and galvanized BS bolts grade
8.8 shall not be reused.
8.2.8 Bolts that have been pretensioned shall be color coded, die punched, or
otherwise marked on the ends indicating that the bolts have been
properly tensioned and are ready for inspection.
8.2.9 All galvanized bolt assemblies tightened against shop-applied paint shall
be painted.
8.2.13 When the outer face of the joint has a slope that is greater than 1:20 with
respect to a plane that is normal to the bolt axis, a beveled washer shall
be used to compensate for the lack of parallelism
8.2.14 Direct tension indicator (DTI) washers shall be installed according to the
manufacturer’s published specifications.
8.2.15 Slip critical connections, where noted on the erection drawings, shall be
installed in accordance with provisions of AISC Specification for
Structural Joints Using High Strength Bolts.
8.2.17 Engineer will observe operations for the installation and tightening of
bolts to determine whether the work is being performed properly, and will
inspect the nut surface for indication of wrench impact. Bolt tension will
be checked, at PURCHASER’s discretion, with an inspector's wrench in
accordance with AISC Specification for Structural Joints Using High
Strength Bolts.
8.2.18 When pretension bolts or slip critical connections are specified, minimum
three bolt assemblies from each lot shall be tested by ERECTOR for
specified pretension at the job site or an independent laboratory. The
testing shall be in accordance with AISC Specification for Structural Joints
Using High Strength Bolts. This requirement is applicable regardless of
project installation requirements.
8.2.19 Pretensioning high strength bolts shall be in two steps, snug tightening
and then final pretensioning. The snug tightened condition is the
tightness that is attained with a few impacts of an impact wrench or the
full effort of an ironworker using an ordinary spud wrench to bring the
plies into firm contact.
8.2.22 Tightening bolts shall progress systematically from the most rigid part of
the joint in a manner that will minimize relaxation of previously
pretensioned bolts.
a. For less web bolts, tightening from upper bolts as the figure shown

8.2.23 When a gap exists after bolted joint t-up, a shim is required if the gap is
not less than 1mm; the shim is not required if the gap is less than 1mm.
8.2.24 If galvanized tension control bolts are used, all bare steel surfaces (i.e.,
bolt ends) shall be ground and repair by using an organic zinc-rich
coating.
8.2.25 Where ASTM A 307 bolt assemblies are used for connecting
appurtenances (i.e. handrail assemblies, ladder, gates etc.) to structural
steel members, the bolts shall be tightened to snug tight condition.
8.3.2 Each weld shall be uniform in width and size throughout its full length.
Each layer of welding shall be smooth and free of slag, cracks, pinholes
and undercut, and shall be completely fused to the adjacent weld beads
and base metal. In addition, the cover pass shall be free of coarse
ripples, high crown, deep ridges and valleys between the beads, and
shall blend smoothly and gradually into the surface of the base metal.
8.3.3 Fillet welds shall be of specified size with full throat and the legs of
uniform length. Structural weld size shall be minimum of 6 mm where not
specified.
8.3.5 Butt welds shall be slightly convex, of uniform height, and shall have full
penetration.
8.3.9 Field welding shall only be used when shown on the shop drawings or
erection drawings.
9.1 Floor plates and grating shall be installed in accordance with design drawings,
shop drawings and erection drawings.
9.2 All field-cut floor plate or grating openings requiring toe plate protection or
banding shall be installed as required on the design drawings or other contract
documents.
9.3 ERECTOR shall fasten the grating and oor plate as specified on the design
drawings. A minimum of four fasteners per panel shall be used.
9.4 ERECTOR shall submit, as a minimum, the arrangement drawings and detail
drawings that including the following information for metal deck to ENGINEER
for approval prior to start the installation work.
a. The relation with steel structure framing, and the location of each panel.
b. Type and thickness of the deck.
c. Edging and its reinforcement.
d. The location, size and the reinforcement of opening on the deck.
e. Temporary supports and their arrangement.
f. Details and locations of connections.
9.5 Field flame cutting is not allowed for metal decking.
9.6 Metal deck shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturers installation
instructions and the contract documents.
9.7 Where damage has occurred to shop-applied coatings on metal decking, field
touch-up, if accepted by CTCI, shall be in accordance with the manufacturers
recommendations.
10.1 All shear stud attachments shall be welded in strict accordance with the
manufacturer’s recommendations for welding procedure and welding
equipment.
10.2 If two or more stud welding guns are operated from the same power source,
the guns shall be interlocked so that only one gun can be operated at a time
to ensure that the power source has fully recovered from making one weld
before another weld is started.
10.3 All ceramic insulators shall be removed from the base of the studs after
welding.
11.2 For painted steel surfaces where paint was omitted for field welding or field
bolting or where damage has occurred subsequent to shop painting, such
surfaces shall be repaired, cleaned and painted in accordance with provisions
of N51-P-8306-SP , SES T01-S01 and A01-S02.
12.1 General
1 12.1.2 PURCHASER approval for the drilling of specific holes shall not be
considered as a general approval for drilling holes elsewhere in the
structure.

12.3.1 Holes in excess of the number set forth in Table II shall not be drilled or
1 punched in webs of structural members without SABIC approval except
holes less than 8 mm diameter used for mounting small electric and
equipment items. All 8 mm diameter holes shall be positioned at least 50
mm center-to-center.
