the continents and learn about their size, location, and population .
Activity The teacher will stand at the front of the class starting with the
first whiteboard slide. The teacher will the change to the
second slide where they will go over all seven continents. The
students will see their size and location on the map and they
will be in different colors.
The teacher will switch to the next slide and explain multiple
ways to remember the name and size of each continent.
Seven students will then be called to move the names of the
continents onto each continent on the whiteboard (slide 4).
Seven students (different from the ones that were just called)
will then be called up to tap on each continent on each slide to
hear the name of the specific continent on the board.
On slide number 10, the students will come up to the board
and circle with the whiteboard marker which continents they
think have polar bears on them. We will discuss as a class the
rationale behind their answers.
On the last slide the students will learn about the population
of each continent.

Once all of the slides are complete:

The teacher would have provided a handout as well of a blank
map of the world. The students will use light green, dark green,
yellow, dark red, light red, pink, and blue colored pencils to
shade the different continents the different colors to match the
map shown on the slide. Once they have completed that, they
will then cut them out and past them in the proper location on
a blank paper to represent where they are located on the map.
Once that have completed that task, they will write the name
of each continent with a black marker on each figure.
Next to each continent, the students will use a red marker to
mark from 1-7 (1 being the highest in population) the order of
the continents from highest population to lowest. They will
also then use a green marker to mark from 1-7 (1 being the
highest in area) the order of the continents from biggest area
to lowest.
They will use completed slide #4 and slide #12 to check their
work.

The students will then be put in to 7 groups. Each group will

receive a sign with a continent name on it. They will then
organize their groups in the room the form a human map. The
front of the room will be North and the back of the room will
be South. Each group will then take turns calling out their
continent name and discuss their location on the map.
