SUMMATIVE TEST

Name: JAN RYL T. GABATILLA BSED ENGLISH 1B

I. Identify what Filipino trait/attitude is being asked in each statement by choosing

the correct answer from the word bank. Write the answer on the space provided.

pakikipagkapwa-tao kanya-kanya syndrome

ningas cogon colonial mentality joy and humor
hardwork and family-centeredness faith and religiosity
industry extreme ability to survive
personalism

Pakikipagkapwa-tao 1. It is a Filipino trait that is manifested in the practice

of
Bayanihan or mutual assistance.
Hard work and Industry 2. This trait is demonstrated in our willingness to take risks
and work in other countries.
Ability to survive 3. This trait is demonstrated by Filipinos to carry on and endure
even through harsh economic and social circumstances.
Kanya-kanya syndrome 4. This trait emphasizes personal and in-group interests,
which are insensitive to the common good.
Ningas cogon 5. This trait starts with enthusiasm but sooner or later that enthusiasm
just dies down.
Joy and Humor 6. This is demonstrated when Filipinos become cheerful and fun-
loving, especially during fiestas and any other social
gatherings.
Extreme Personalism 7. This involves personal contacts, which make requests become
difficult to turn down and may lead to the prevalence of graft
and corruption in the country.
Family Centeredness 8. Family is valued above anything and everyone else
because the family is the source of strength.
Colonial Mentality 9. This trait is connected to our general feelings of inferiority,
where we think foreigners are superior.
Faith and religiosity 10. This trait is actually a positive side to “bahala na” mindset,
which serves as a ‘kickstarter” or a “pamapalakas loob”
to move someone into action.
II. Application
Do you believe that your Filipino identity (e.g., traits and values) influences how
you perceive and actively engage yourself in political issues/concerns?

Our political identities, in my opinion, are influenced by our ideals and

personality traits. Alternatively, our political selves reflect our ideals. My elders
told me that stealing things like other people's money is wrong and shouldn't be
done, and that you should think about what the owner has gone through just
because you took their money. Yet some of the elderlies are deceived by these
corrupt politicians, they promise them with ideals but then when they got in their
position, they show incompetency. Let's use some corrupt politicians who are now
in the government as an example. They are thieves, and we the people are the
owners who are paying the price. Consider the hardships we have endured as a
result of their possession of money that wasn't legally theirs. In the recent
presidential election, I chose a president who I know, is competent, hardworking,
and can make our country better. She was my hope, my greatest what if.

“DEATH PENALTY OR LIFE IMPRISONMENT”

III. Application: Answer the question below and give examples.

We all know in the bible that taking somebody else’s life is a great sin. Death
penalty is legal to some countries. It is given to people who committed the worst
crimes of all time. However, if I were to choose between death penalty or life
imprisonment, I would choose death penalty only to those who committed the
worst crimes that a human could possibly do. The reason I choose death penalty
for them is because they are more than just criminals, they are the devil itself.
They should be wiped away from this world. Examples of the worst crimes are
rape, murder, mass murder. Victims of those crimes should be given the justice
they deserve, and I think that justice is death penalty. Because if the criminals are
just put into life imprisonment, there are chances that they could escape and
commit the crimes they used to do. That is unfair to the victims or the family of
the victims.
