THE

RATIONAL' PATENT FIREPLACE

Is a fire on the hearth. The hearth is level with the floor, so that the heat from the fire

can radiate to the feet of persons using the room, instead of being driven up the chimney, and it allows
the floor of the room to be swept in the proper way, that is, towards the fireplace, and thus keep down
the dust as much as possible. There is no direct air supply beneath the fire-grid ; the hot-air chamber
beneath promotes perfect combustion
