What am I being assessed on?
The NVQ is an assessment of your SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCE, specific to the job that
you carry out.

Each NVQ is made up of UNITS.

Each UNIT is made up of ELEMENTS.

Elements are made up of LEARNING OUTCOMES. These outcomes require you to demonstrate
your:
• KNOWLEDGE
• SKILLS / COMPETENCE
So, outcomes will either require you to demonstrate KNOWLEDGE, or, SKILLS/COMPETENCE.
The evidence you submit with be specific to this.

Types of evidence
For KNOWLEDGE, you can type your answers, write your answers, provide a tape recording, or
engage in a professional discussion with your assessor.

For SKILLS / COMPETENCE you can provide work-based evidence such as:
• Video evidence of you carrying out relevant tasks
• Witness testimonies
• briefings you have delivered
• reports you have written and communicated
• meetings you have planned, taken part in
• CPD events
• risk assessments you have carried out
• copies of emails you have exchanged between people to show communication and
engagement
• photos, or record short videos
 • work colleagues or line managers can provide witness testimony - or direct observation by
your assessor
• in fact, you can select anything from your work place that provides the evidence you need
to demonstrate you have achieved the learning outcome

What are the units?

There are TEN mandatory units in this NVQ and the learner must achieve all of them to pass.
• Promote a positive health and safety culture
• Develop and implement the health and safety policy
• Develop and implement effective communication systems for health and safety information
• Develop and maintain individual and organisational competence in health and safety
matters
• Identify, assess and control health and safety risks
• Develop and implement reactive monitoring systems for health and safety
• Develop and implement proactive monitoring systems for health and safety
• Develop and implement health and safety review systems
• Develop and implement health and safety emergency
• Maintain knowledge of improvements to influence health and safety practice

To meet the requirements of IOSH this level 6 diploma you are able to demonstrate your
knowledge and application of Ethics, Equality, and Inclusion & Diversity. This is achieved via a
CPD (Continuous Professional Development) workbook which is used and integrated into the last
element of every unit.

What memberships can I achieve?
Upon achievement of the NVQ, learners can apply for Graduate Membership of IOSH and Full
Membership of IIRSM.

What if I am already a Graduate Member of IOSH - having achieved my degree or

diploma?
The NVQ will REPLACE the need to complete the IPD Skills Portfolio - allowing you to progress to
the Peer Review Interview. We support ALL our Level 6 learners after they qualify and embark on
their journey to CMIOSH.

What CSCS Card can I achieve?

Depending on the learners role, they can apply for a Black CSCS Managers Card or Professionally
Qualified Person Card.

How long will it take me to complete?

That is ENTIRELY up to you! Each qualification varies in size and units. We ask you to provide us
with an expected completion of units when we enrol you. This is so we can manage your
assessment and ensure that your qualification meets the standards for quality assurance required
as a regulated qualification. Each portfolio is sampled internally and externally Awarding
Organisation.
