Report:

A one-day workshop on “Lathe Machine” as a part of the Skills Development Programme for the
non-teaching staff of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Raghu Engineering College
was organized at the Institute from 10.00 AM to 3. 30 PM on 20thMay 2020. Mr. J. Ramesh
Naidu, Assistant Professor in the department of Mechanical Engineering, Raghu Engineering
College was the resource person of the workshop.

The training program was inaugurated by DR.R.VaikuntaRao, Head of the Department,


Department of Mechanical Engineering. In his inaugural speech, DR.R.VaikuntaRao inspired the
participants to make use of the training program to the maximum extent possible in order to
enhance their knowledge in Heat Transfer and develop skills.

During the first session of the workshop, Mr. J. Ramesh Naidu demonstrated various parts of the
lathe machine, how they work, the preventive and shut down maintenance under various
conditions of failure of the equipment. After the demonstration, the participants were given a
few tasks on these areas and their performance was evaluated and necessary feedback on how to
improve these skills was given.

In the second session, a presentation on the applications of the machine was told. This was
followed by testing of participants’ understanding on some of the given topics. In the last
session, the resource person gave some useful information and tips on the actual doing of the job
and the participants were asked to work on the machine and do the job making use of the tips and
following the guidelines given.
