Тема: ВЕЛИКА БРИТАНІЯ. THE LAND OF BRITAIN

Мета: практична - ввести нові ЛО (географічні назви), вчити вживати у усному


мовленні; розвивати лексико-граматичні навички (використовувати артикль the з
географічними назвами, будувати вислови про погоду); розвивати уміння читати у
форматі ЗНО, cприймати мову на слух з метою вилучення необхідної інформації;
тренувати в усному діалогічному та монологічному мовленні ( з опорою, без опори);

розвиваюча - розвивати здатність учнів до порівняння, висновку, уміння


висловлювати своє ставлення до теми;

освітня – розширювати кругозір учнів про країну, якої вивчаємо;

виховна – виховувати прагнення пізнавати світ, культуру спілкування.

Обладнання: карта Великої Британії, символи структури уроку, слова для пошукової
роботи, девіз уроку, граматична пам’ятка використання означеного артикля the з
географічними назвами, шаблони карти Great Britain (1 велика, 14 малих), аудіозапис
“Interesting Facts”+ візуальні завдання, географічні назви на дошці, текст для читання із
завданнями у форматі ЗНО, опорний зразок для драматизації діалогів, на дошці опорна
таблиця для монологічного мовлення + опорні таблиці для підготовки домашнього
завдання, 6 капелюхів критичного мислення, картки для об’єднання в групи (2, 3, 4)

 I enjoy travelling. I always can discover the mysteries of the surrounding world.

So, now I propose to make a journey to another country. It’s a high time to know the theme of
our lesson. Look at the map and say what country we are going to talk about. (the UK)

The aim of our lesson is to learn more about this country, it will be geographical outlook; we’ll
practice our speaking, use different activities in speaking, listening, reading and writing. At the
end of the lesson we’ll create our own map of the county and tell about the UK.

task “Aquarium”. You’ll have cards of two colours (black and red). Pupils with black
sign will sit inside the aquarium, like fishes, and organize a discussion on the following

= Do you know the names of their capital cities?

Pupils with red sign will listen to the discussion and label
countries of the UK and capital cities on their maps.

Ben Nevis, in the Highlands of Scotland, is the highest mountain in Britain. It is 1,343 meters
high. Some parts of Ben Nevis are covered with snow all year round. The Severn is Britain’s
longest river. It is 290km long. It starts in north Wales and flows to the Bristol Channel. The
Severn Bridges, which crosses the river, is one of the longest suspension bridges in the world.

The Land of Great Britain

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK) is situated off the north-west
coast of Europe. (1)…….Their capitals are London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast.

The UK is an island state. The two main islands are Great Britain (where England, Scotland and
Wales are situated) and Ireland. (2)…… The two islands are separated by the Irish Sea.
The UK is separated from the continent by the English Channel and the Strait of Dover. The UK
is also washed by the Atlantic Ocean in the north and the North Sea in the east.

The area of the UK is 244,100 square kilometers. The most important rivers are the Thames, the
Severn and the Clyde. (3)….. There are mountains in the UK but they are not very high. The
Grampian Mountains are a mountain range of central Scotland. (4)…. Ben Nevis (1,343m) is
the highest peak.

The Pennines are a low-rising mountain range in northern England and Scotland (5)….. There

More than 57 million people live in Britain. Many of them live in big industrial cities like
London. Manchester and Liverpool, for example, are big industrial cities in the centre of
England. But foreigners are often surprised by the fact that much of land in Britain is open

I. The official name of this country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern
Ireland. It is situated in the north-west part of Europe. The UK consists of four parts:
England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. England is in the east and south,
Wales is in the west, Scotland is in the north and Northern Ireland is on an island next
to Great Britain. The capital of England is London, the capital of Scotland is
Edinburgh, the capital of Wales is Cardiff and the capital of Northern Ireland is
Belfast.

P1, P2, P3, P4 were the best in pronunciation, speaking and reading but had some
mistakes in grammar.
P5, P6, P7, P8 were good in many activities but not always right
P9, P10, P11, P12 were good though not active in speaking
