Week 1: Syllabus review, “My Name” assignment. Make sure Bb and all technology are working for you.
My Name response started in class, due by Friday night.

Week 2:

Read and annotate Friere’s Banking Concept (on Bb) before class Wednesday. Discuss Friere, introduce
concept of literacy. Read Chapter 1 in text, Ch. 1 response HW due Friday.

Week 3:

Read Gee’s Language, Literacy and Discourse before class on Wednesday. Prepare answers to questions
for discussion in class Wednesday. Reading and questions available on Bb.

Discourse community mapping. 

Week 4:

Before class, read and annotate literacy narratives, posted on Blackboard. View Gee on Gaming and
Education video in class. Read and annotate chapter 2 from text. Brainstorm literacy moments and Ch. 2
HW response due Friday.

Begin thinking about personal literacy narrative.

Week 5:

Think about genre and Discourse. Begin writing literacy narrative. Draftlet (short, 3 page partial draft)
due on Bb by Friday. Scene setting in class.

Full draft due next Wednesday.

Week 6:

Peer Workshopping Literacy Narratives in class Wednesday.

Self-workshop literacy narratives, revision of narratives. Reading and response on Bb by Friday.

Week 7:

Literacy Narrative due on Bb by Friday! Introduction of next unit central concepts and themes.
