Scientific Attitudes
• Is a logical way of thinking clearly, reasonably without any
disturbance or prejudice.
• It’s an attitude that the scientists should possess.
• It is a set of attitudes that the students studying science or
research should also possess.
• Scientific attitudes means not accepting any such fact which
does not have any proof.
• An argument that make science distinctive is its emphasis on
evidence and scientists’ willingness to change theories on the
basis of new evidence.
Scientific Attitudes

• It is the most important outcome of


science teaching and which enables
us to think rationally.
• It is the combination of many qualities
and virtues which is reflected through
behavior and action of the person.
Curiosity
• It is a strong desire to know or learn
something.
• A scientist shows interest and pays
particular attention to objects or
events. He asks questions and
seeks answers.
Importance of developing
scientific curiosity
• It makes your mind active instead of
passive.
• It makes your mind observant.
• It opens up new world and
possibilities.
• It brings excitement into your life.
Intellectual honesty
• A scientist gives a truthful report of
observations. He does not withhold important
information just to please himself or others.
• This attitude allows a scientist to recognize the
work done by other scientists before him or her.
• This attitude is also shown by reporting data
truthfully.
Open-Mindedness
• A scientist listening to and respect
the ideas of others. He accepts
criticisms and changes his mind if
reliable evidence contradicts his
believes.
Skepticism
• It is having an attitude of doubt. Do not
accept things blindly without
questioning. Develop the doubting
attitude unless presented with reliable
data. A skeptic always believes in this
saying, “to believe with certainty, we
must begin with doubting.”
Objectivity
• A scientist is objectivity if he does
not allow his feelings and biases to
influence his recording of
observation, interpretation of data
and formulation of conclusion.
Perseverance
• It is the persistence and tenacity,
the efforts required to do something
and keep doing until the end, even if
it’s hard.
OBSERVING
It involves the use of
senses to gather
information about an
object or event.
A. Hypothetical Theory

Natural Observation
When a scientist sets out to prove
something using scientific method, he
must first observe something in the
natural phenomena.
This type of
observation means
scientist will watch
and wait for the
event to happen
during an
experiment.
If Sir Isaac Newton had
come up with his theory
of gravity after
dropping an apple
from a balcony, his
observation would be
staged.

recreated.
