The Effect of Sunlight to the Growth of Plants

SUBMITTED TO:

SUBMITTED BY:
INTRODUCTION
Phototrophs transform light energy into chemical energy through a process called photosynthesis,
which is then utilized to power cellular processes. In the form of sugars, which are made from
water and carbon dioxide, the chemical energy is kept in reserve. The photosynthesis definition
states that the process exclusively takes place in the chloroplasts through photosynthetic
pigments such as chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, carotene, and xanthophyll. All green plants and a
few other auto trophic organisms utilize photosynthesis to synthesize nutrients by using carbon
dioxide, water, and sunlight. The by-product of the photosynthesis process is oxygen. Let us
have a detailed look at the process, reaction, and importance of photosynthesis.
In addition to green plants, other creatures can also engage in photosynthesis. Several
prokaryotes are among them, including cyanobacteria, purple bacteria, and green sulfur bacteria.
Similar to green plants, these creatures also engage in photosynthesis. The glucose generated
during photosynthesis is subsequently utilized to power numerous cellular processes. This physio
chemical process produces oxygen as a byproduct. When plants employ light energy to transform
carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen, this process is known as photosynthesis.
Chloroplasts, tiny cellular organelles, are found in leaves. Water and carbon dioxide are the two
reactants in the photosynthesis process. These two reactants produce oxygen and glucose as their
two products. The photosynthesis reaction is therefore regarded as an endothermic reaction. The
formula for photosynthesis is as follows:
6CO2 + 6H2O —> C6H12O6 + 6O2
The sun is an important part of our daily lives and a sustainable energy source. From Earth's
warming to the water cycle, it is an important component of our everyday lives. Additionally,
light is essential for the development of plants. Plants would not be able to grow, reproduce, or
survive if they did not have access to light.
MATERIALS:
•2 regular sized plastic cups
•2 cups of loam soil
•healthy monggo seeds
•Tap water
•Ruler
•Masking tape
•Pentel pen
•Cell phone camera

PROCEDURE:
1. Soak monggo seeds in water and remove the floating ones, then drain out water.
2. Label one plastic cup with “Set-up A” (with sunlight) and the other plastic cup with
“Set-upB” (without sunlight).
3. Cut 4 holes in the bottom of both plastic cups.
4. Put 1 cup of loam soil in both set-ups.
5. Randomly plant 25 healthy monggo seeds in each set-up and drizzle ¼ cup of tap water to
it.
6. Place Set-up A outside where it can be exposed to the sunlight.
7. Place Set-up B inside the where it can’t be exposed to the sunlight.
8. Only water both set-ups with ¼ cup of tap water once every other day.
9. Take pictures of both set-ups everyday for the documentation.
10. Keep track with the plant growth with written observations.
11. Interpret the data to be collected and evaluate the results for the conclusion.

CONCLUSION
Generally speaking, mongo seedlings will eventually die off if there is no light for them to use.
The heat from the sun helps the mongo seed germinate and grow, and you can water them once
in a while to keep them from dying.Day by day, I can see the growth of the mongo, from being
seeds to having multiple leaves. Every day, there’s always a change in its look. I can attest that a
plant that absorbs sunlight every day will grow healthy and beautiful. Generally speaking,
monggo seeds will eventually die off if there is no light for them to use. The temperature from
the sunlight makes the mongo seed germinate and grow better; put water on them once in a while
to prevent them from dying.
Without sunlight, the plant grows faster, but it appears pale and thin, in short, unhealthily, as
opposed to when it has sunlight and is thick and green.
