DCC10022 – BRICKWORKS AND CONCRETE LABORATORY
OBJECTIVE
To determine whether a test sample of coarse aggregrate to
meet the existing standards for use in concrete.
THEORY
Malaysian Standard prescribe that the percent of coarse
aggregate size passing BS sieve are as given in the table.
SCOPE OF WORK
❖ Use this test method to determine the particle size
distribution of aggregate samples, by using British
Standard (BS) sieves with square openings.

PROCEDURES
1) Get the amount of coarse aggregate to be tested by sampling from the
sample taken to a laboratory that has been dried. (Take 2 Kg @ 200grams
minimum)
3) Arrange the sieve according the size and insert the sample of coarse
aggregate into the top sieve.
4) Vibrating the sieve that filled with coarse aggregate until all sizes fully
separated.

6) Weight the aggregate retained in each sieve and also in the Pan.

INSTRUCTION:
➢ Calculate the percentage (%) of coarse aggregate retained for each sieve.
➢ Calculate the percentage (%) of coarse aggregate passing for each sieve.
➢ Compare the percentage (%) with standard and conclude the result.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion , the sample of coarse aggregate can not be used because not
according to JKR spec.
ANALYSIS
Plot the curve on the graph given.
DISCUSSION
Answer the question by circling the answer.
Because the graph is said to be uniformly graded (bad) when the particle size is almost
the same as in the first curve. On the second curve having a less good grade is shown on
the resulting curve extending across the graph and less containing medium -sized
particles. This is because it does not meet JKR standards
