Answer the following questions for new construction and/or alteration of a Shell and Tube Exchanger.

Determine if PWHT is required or any alternative for the proposed nozzle assembly comprised of a shell and integrally reinforced nozzle. The shell
is cylindrical with all Category A joints made up of Type 1 butt welds which have been 100% radiographically examined. The nozzle parameters used
in the design procedure is shown in Figure 1. under the following conditions;

Shell material : SA-240 Gr 316
Nominal thickness : 54 mm.

Nozzle Material : SA-105 (Normalized condition)


Nominal thickness : See figure 1.

When user not permitted to performed PWHT for shell to nozzle as per figure 1.[see detail
on page 2 and 3] Welding Engineer notice to AI, first step this joint shall be used weld
overlay on nozzle by E309 and then welding shell to weld overlay on nozzle by doing this
joint shall be exempted PWHT under general notes (b)(3)(e) of Table UCS-56
