Biosecurity is a program designed to prevent the spread of pathogens and diseases in poultry farms. It includes conceptual, structural, and operational measures. Conceptual biosecurity establishes isolation distances between farms. Structural biosecurity includes fencing, facilities for feed storage and dead bird disposal, and foot baths. Operational biosecurity focuses on day-to-day practices like using separate clothes and footwear, rodent and pest control, equipment disinfection, and disease monitoring to keep birds healthy and maximize production.
