COURSE TITLE: Network Administration and Maintenance


COURSE CODE: IT 363

and technology transfer based on industry standards.

Objectives
1. To provide students with holistic training by introducing new technologies in
Information and Communication Technology and allowing them to experience
actual workplace environment.

2. To inculcate discipline towards the achievements of professional competencies,
integrity, moral and ethical values.

To produce students knowledgeable in programming, networking,
database management, and with expertise on systems analysis and
design by providing appropriate trainings and laboratories.

BIT – Computer Technology


To develop skills in computer hardware technology through laboratory
activities and trainings in the field of networking, computer assembly and
troubleshooting.

3. To promote culture of teamwork, discipline, good study habits and standards of


learning by exploring hardware and software technology in an environment
conducive to learning.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
 The course focuses on the advanced concepts of networking, which includes
creating ideal Server-Client Models; IPv4 subnetting such as Classful, Classless
and Variable Length Subnet Mask; Basic Network Management and
Configuration; Routing Protocol such as Static and Dynamic which includes
RIPv1 and RIPv2, Wireless Network Configuration, Basic Server Setup, and
Networking Techniques.

LEARNING OUTCOMES (LO):

On completion of the course, the student is expected to be able to do the following:

1. Internalize the vision, mission, goals and objectives of the university to achieve
excellence in education.
2. Develop an understanding of on how Computer Networking really works in the
Industry and in the field of Network Administration.
3. Will gain proper knowledge on how to plan, create and maintain a Computer
Network with the technique used in real world.
4. Produce multiple networks from a single IP using IPv4 Subnetting – Classful and
Variable Length Subnet Mask.
5. Configure complex network using Command Line Interface of a network device
such as routers and switches.
6. Provide a proper routing protocol setting for big networks with the use of Static
Routing, RIP version 1 and RIP version 2.
7. Configure a wireless environment with the consideration of network security and
advance techniques.
8. Proper setup of basic servers that is commonly used in the industry such as DNS,
DHCP, Web and Email.

FINAL COURSE OUTPUT

In order to evaluate the understanding of the students, they should create a


Network Plan of CICT building on Packet Tracer with the following requirements:

• Only 3rd floor and 4th floor are included.


• Faculty room is included.

• They must consider the numbers of computer on each room. (Not all
rooms have computer)
• Each room must belong to different networks.
• There should be a server on faculty room.
 Web Server (Intranet)
 Email Server
 DHCP Server (All of the computer must acquire their IP
automatically except for the servers)
 DNS Server
• The faculty must have internet connection.
• They should use subnetting to produce multiple network using private
IP address. (class A)
• Faculty room must have Wireless connection for at least 50 wireless
Devices.
• Wireless connection must have a proper security setup.
• They can use reasonable number of routers and switches.
• They must have a proper setup of routers. (Routing Protocol)
• They must provide a PowerPoint presentation explaining the details of
their network.

CLASS POLICIES:

concepts/principles that will be discussed in the weeks following its
assigned date.

are encouraged to openly discuss and ask questions, the final work to
be submitted must be the student’s own.

project code or report will result in disciplinary action and automatic
FAIL grade for an entire group, or student(s), involved.
• In case of illness, emergencies, etc., students are required to give
excuse letter signed by the respective guardian. A valid ID must also
