Report Proper: The Science of Human Movement

 What is movement?
o A vital part of being a living being
o We move our body parts to perform daily tasks
o The human body is an incredible piece of machinery.
o The complex mechanics of our bodies allows for the movement we require to
care for our families, compete in athletics, pursue meaningful careers, and so
much more.
o Unfortunately, it’s not always possible for the body to operate at peak
performance. Injuries, disabilities, and illness can all inhibit a person’s ability to
perform daily physical activities, from the most basic to strenuous levels. When
left untreated, these conditions can lead to a severe loss of personal agency.
o The study of human movement science works to address these issues.
o “Kinesiology”
 studies the science of human movement, performance, and function by
applying the fundamental sciences of Biology, Molecular Biology,
Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biomechanics, Biomathematics,
Biostatistics, Physiology, Anatomy, Neuroscience, and Nutritional
Science.
o Classifications of human movement:

Bone, or osseous tissue, is a hard, dense connective tissue that forms most of the
adult skeleton, the body's
support structure. The skeletal system is the body system composed of bones and
cartilage and performs the
following critical functions for the human body:
1. Protects
Our delicate organs need protection:
a. The skull protects the brain.
b. The vertebral column protects the spinal cord.
c. The rib cage protects the heart and lungs.
2. Supports
Our body needs a framework:
a. The skeleton gives shape to our bodies.
b. It holds our vital organs in place.
c. It enables us to achieve a good posture.
3. Moves
Our muscles use our bones to cause movement:
a. The skeleton provides attachment for the muscles.
b. The skeleton is jointed, which allows a wide range of movement.
c. Different joints enable different types of movement.
4. Produces blood
Red and white blood cells are produced in the ribs, humerus, vertebrae, and femur
bone marrow
