3/ Course objectives
3.1. Course description:
This course aims to improve students’ English proficiency and provide them with
essential knowledge of the world around them. During the course, students will have
the opportunity to learn and practice English skills through real-life experience in
different areas, as well as communicating in English with foreign teachers. Apart from
that, students will also be able to develop important soft skills namely teamwork and
problem solving.
3.2.Expected outcomes:
By the end of the course, students are expected to have:
In terms of knowledge:
- general and necessary knowledge about the world
- wider range of vocabulary related to learnt topics
- some structures and grammar units for different functions
In terms of skills:
- ability to apply vocabulary, grammar structures and knowledge of the world in
writing or speaking
- better reading and listening skills
- ability to cooperate to work in groups effectively
In terms of attitude:
- more confidence whenever using their English
- more passion for English and learning English
4/ Course summary:
This course is designed for students whose age ranges from 8 to 10 years old. The
level of students are at A1 - A2 level according to CEFR framework. During this
course, students will be provided with vocabulary and grammar among familiar topics
such as: school things, hobbies and food. Based on the acquired knowledge, students
also have the opportunity to improve their English competencies through hands - on
experience. The course consists of 10 lessons, 9 different topics, weekly quiz and
reflection, 2 progress tests and one end - term test which comes in the format of a
gallery - walk activity.

The reason why our group do not choose the reading and listening in “Family and
Friends 3” is that our course aims not only learn English in class but also learn
English through experiencing the world. As a result, we use these two materials
because they are related to topics that we have taught students before.

7.2 Weekly Syllabus

8/ Course policy
Students are expected to:
- complete all of the requirements of the course as mentioned in the course
guide.
- submit assignments on time. Students who submit their assignment 3 days later
than the deadline will receive mark 0.
- attend at least 70% of class hours. If a student is absent for more than 30% of
class hours, his learning outcome will not be guaranteed.
- actively take part in in - class activities as well as outdoor hands - on
experience.
- avoid physical conflicts during class hours.
- announce their absence 24 hours before class.

Note: Under no circumstances would course fee be refunded.

9.1. In-class continuous assessment
9.2. Assessment description
Assessment 1: Attendance
Detailed description
This section will include 2 parts: participation and homework completion. Students
are assessed individually.
Students are expected to:
- attend all the lessons
- complete all the homework required in each lesson
In each lesson, instructors will:
- supervise the number of students presenting
- check and comment homework of students
Assessment 2: Weekly quiz
Detailed description
This section will take place every lesson. Students are required to do it individually.
- All the items in a quiz are in the form of selected-response questions (10 items are
multiple choice questions, 5 items are matching)
- Time allotment for each quiz: 10 minutes
- All quizzes account for 20% of the total score
Assessment 3: Progress test
This section will occur 2 times after 3 lessons, each progress test includes two
different parts: a grammar test and a speaking test. Students are required to do it in
class individually.
In each progress test, students will:
- review and practice learnt lexical resources and grammar points.
- listen for specific information.
- understand a short paragraph and fill in the blank.
- construct oral response to questions in English independently.
- solve problems under time pressure.
Assessment 4: Reflection
This section requires students to complete individually at home and will occur from
week 2 to week 9. Students will submit all of their reflection to teachers at the end of
the course.
In this section, students are required to:
- apply vocabulary on different topics and grammar structures in writing.
- recall and report what they have learnt, what they enjoyed about each lesson and
what they did not.
- describe their personal experience and express thoughts with awareness.
Assessment 5: Gallery walk
This section will occur as the end - term test and require students to work in groups.
Each group includes 3 to 4 students.
In this section, students are asked to:
- apply knowledge of learnt topics during the course to create their own inventions.
- apply vocabulary and grammar structures that they have studied to make a complete
presentation about their inventions.
- listen for specific information during other presentations.
- ask and answer questions about their and other groups’ presentations.
