Explanation

The purpose of this study is to identify factors that influence gender-based bullying in schools, so that
teachers, administrators, and parents can address the issue. Also to provide a clear picture of what is
going on through assessing bullying by anonymous surveys, particularly understand the feelings and the
experiences of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual and another diverse
gender identity (LGBTQ+) sophomore students who are affected by the impact of gender-based bullying
in schools. This information could help schools create bullying prevention and intervention efforts that
are tailored to their needs.

What makes this study timely? so growing up in Southeast Asia, you're probably used to certain school
policies that enforce particular rules regarding physical appearance while on campus. These policies
range from uniform specificity, to self-grooming, and even haircuts, the latter being a common point of
contention for angsty teens wanting to sprout into their own individuality. In which, photos posted by a
hair salon in the city of San Juan in the Philippines have sparked a heated debate about the discipline-
versus-discrimination issue linked to school haircut enforcement in the country. This happened on
August 24 which is the start of face-to-face classess in the Philippines.

The photos, showing a group of Filipino teens with long hair in a 'Before' photo above an 'After' photo
showing their 'school-compliant' haircuts, have definitely rubbed some people the wrong way, including
members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Specifically, this is a descriptive-phenomenological study that aims to understand the feelings and the
experiences of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual and another diverse
gender identity (LGBTQ+) sophomore students who are affected by the impact of gender-based bullying
in schools.
