FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
FOR CLEANING
I. Introduction

Year 2020 has just started, yet people all over the world have already witnessed and
experienced a lot of calamities and disasters. There were earthquakes in Puerto Rico, fire
in Australia and Korea, volcanic eruption in Mexico, Alaska, Guatemala and Japan, snow
storm in California, war between Iran and US, and flood in Dubai and Indonesia.
Philippines wasn’t able to escape from this calamities for last January 12, 2020, Taal
volcano also erupted.

The said eruption affected a lot of lives living near the area. The volcanic activity
reached alert level 4 thus families included in the 14km danger zone were forced to
evacuate and total lockdown in some affected cities and municipalities was ordered. In
January 13 the volcano emitted a large amount of ash fall which covered a wide range of
area.

Bukal Elementary School, being included in that 14km danger zone, also had its share
of sufferings. Classes were suspended and the school was also covered with thick ash fall
from the eruption which affected a total of 665 pupils and 23 teaching and non-teaching
staffs.

As the alert level of the volcanic activity went down to alert level 3, cancellation of
the total lock down in the town of Lemery was announced therefore giving permission to
people to visit their homes and properties. And so, to prepare Bukal Elementary School
for the possible resumption of classes, a Clean Up Drive was conducted which started last
February 3, 2020.

II. Objectives

The school had set the following objectives of the said event:

1. To prepare the school for the resumption of classes

2. To maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of Bukal Elementary School
3. To avoid pupils from possible accidents and having sickness due to the heavy
ash fall
4. To strengthen the communication and involvement of the community, other
stakeholders and the school.
