ONSHORE MAINTAIN POTENTIAL PROGRAM For SAUDI ARAMCO Contract No. 6600033952- SA- 1 6600033991- SA- 4 Method Statement for Thrust Boring for 6” Pipe sao ee MELA | 1s Project Rev. ___\ Prepared By ied By Appro Br. CAT. Intemational Company Ltd METHOD STATEMENT FOR THRUSTBORING FOR 6" PIPE 1. General ‘This is a trenchless method for installation of pipes. 2. Scope HDD is used when ever pipes are to be installed under Roads, Pipelines, and Streems etc., where surface disruption is not possible. 3. Definitions HOD-Horizontal Directional Drilling Pilot Hole - The initially drilled hole in the pre-determined path. Back Reaming -The Procedure by which the diameter of the pilot hole is enlarged Rig Side- The end of drill path where drill rigs installed Pipe Side - The end of the drill path from where pipe is pulled © Entry Pit- The pit at Rig Side from which pilot drilling starts. © Exit Pit - The pit at pipe side where pilot drilling ends. 4, Procedure 4.1 Survey the surface along the drill path and mark the topography in the cross section drawing. Mark all utilities in the drawing, Plan a drill path avoiding the existing utilities and considering bend limit of the product pipe to be installed and that of the drill pipe used. 4.2 Excavate an entry pit and an exit pit considering the ground condition and drill path, at the starting and ending parts of the drill path. Excavate and locate existing utilities. 4.3 Calibrate tracking system with beacon installed in drilling tool. The drilling tool is to be selected considering the ground conditions. (A copy of calibration procedure issued by manufacturer is attached for reference.) 4.4 Set the drill rig at the pre planed side to the pre calculated inclination and install the drilling tool 4.5 Anchor the drill rig appropriately 4.6 Prepare Bentonite mix to the correct density and with appropriate ad ground conditions. Connect mix circuit to the machine. 4.7 Penetrate the ground with drilling tool by pushing and rotating the tool along with bentonite jet. The bentonite is to support the tunnel and carry the spoil back to surface. 4.8 Guide the drilling tool along the pre designed path monitoring its progress using tracking system, and guiding it accordingly with the rig controls, and by adding more drill pipes to the drill string tll it reaches the exit pit. 49 Prior to this at a safe distance away from the drill path, 2 conduit is installed, if necessary by drilling, to pump back bentonite mix from pipe side to rig side, when ever recycling of bentonite mix is done (optional). 4.10 Once the drilling tool reaches the exit pit, itis switched with appropriate back reamer. With pre calculated quantity of bentonite mix pumped, the reamer is pulled back with correct rotation. While the reamer goes inside enlarging the pilot hole, the spoil will be carried out by the bentonite mix flowing out. (This mud is pumped back to the recycling unit, where the spoil is separated and clean bentonite mix with additives is re circulated in ives, considering the Br, CAT. Intemational Company Ltd METHOD STATEMENT FOR THRUSTBORING FOR 6" PIPE the system-when a recycling unit is used.) Back reaming is repeated with bigger reamers to appropriate tunnel size is obtained. 4.11 Then the reamer is pushed back by adding more pipes to the drill string, till it reaches exit pit, 4.12 Then the product pipe is connected to the reamer using appropriate tools. The product pipe is properly supported and eased. Then it is eased in to the tunnel slowly, by pulling the drill string back towards the rig, tll the pipe is firmly and fully installed in the tunnel. 4.13 Once the puller end reaches the rig side, the rig with its tools will be disconnected and ‘moved out. Necessary housekeeping will be done. 5. Safety 5.1 All AM.E workmen are supplied with the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Coveralls, Safety Shoes or Boots and Helmets. Other protection such as safety glasses/goggles, gloves, ear plugs, safety belt/harness and masks are supplied appropriate for the task being performed. a 5.2 Training All Personnel should receive training in the correct use of PPE, plant equipment and tools. 5.3 Signboards and Safety Barricades While executing work appropriate signboards and safety barricades (soft/hard) will be erected to prevent inadvertent access, 5.4 Permits To prevent any job delays, all necessary access and ID's have to be arranged before any mobilization. 6. Quality 6.1 General {All work will be executed according to A.M.E quality system as per project requirement. 6.2 Reporting Daily progress reports, detailing the plant, equipment and occurrences are to be signed daily by A.M.E Representative and SAPMT, if required 6.3 Tracking systems are having a tolerance oft 5%. So the drilling also will be having a tolerance of 45%. 7. Responsibilities Br. CAT. Intemational Company Ltd METHOD STATEMENT FOR THRUSTBORING FOR 6” PIPE 7.1 Safety Officer ensures that all necessary permits, personnel and equipment are available prior to the commencement of the work. 7.2 Safety Officer shall inspect the work and surrounding areas to ensure that no construction related 7..3safety Officer and Site Supervisor shall familiarize themselves with work area and the technical requirements of the work. 7.4 Safety Officer and Site Supervisor should ensure that all existing underground utility information including depth and horizontal location of all known substructures whenever possible, are available. 7.4 Site supervisor ensures that only authorized and qualified personnel are assigned to do the Job. 7.5 Quality control personnel to ensure that the HDD procedure is properly approved. 7.6 Quality control personnel to ensure that the proposed facility information are available together with all applicable drawings and reference.
