1. This paper consists of sections A, B and C with total of Eleven (11) questions
2. Answer All questions in sections A and B and Two (02) questions from section C
3. Cellular phones and any unauthorized materials are not allowed in the examination room
4. Non- programmable calculators and mathematical tables may be used.
5. Where necessary the following constants may be used:
(i) Acceleration due to gravity, g =10 𝑚/𝑠2
(ii) Pie = 3.14

3. (a) Figure bellow shows a syringe full of water. It has two identical holes A and B drilled along
its cylinder. The cylinder nozzle is closed

State with a reason how the speeds of the jets of water from A and B compared when the
piston is pushed into the cylinder. (4 marks)

(b) A uniform metre rule is pivoted at its centre. Two weights of 20N and 10N are suspended at
the 20cm and 100cm marks respectively. Determine the position at which a 10N weight
should be suspended in order to balance the system. (6 marks)

4. (a) Illustrate how plane water wave fronts are diffracted on passing through a narrow and wide
gap. (6 marks)

(b) What are the basic two similarities and two differences of lens camera and human eye?

State with a reason what is observed on the hydrometer when the temperature of

(b) Briefly explain how you would measure the specific heat capacity of a metal bob in the
Laboratory by using calorimeter (calorimetric method) by using water as only liquid
available. (7 marks)

7. (a) When a liquid is heated in a glass flask, its level at first falls, then rises. Explain this
observation. (5 marks)

(b) The diagram in the figure bellow shows paths taken by three radiations, A, B and C from
radioactive material through electric field.

(i) State the charges on plate X and Y (2 marks)


(ii) Identify the radiations A and C (2 marks)
(iii) Give a reason why ‘C’ deviate more than A? (1 marks)

8. (a) Figure bellow shows a displacement – distance graph for certain wave motion with frequency
of 50Hz.

9. (a) Briefly explain four factors that may affect the resistance of the material

10. (a) (i) State what is meant by an extrinsic semiconductor (2 marks)
(ii) Figure below shows a depletion layer in an unbiased p-n junction

State how battery can be used to make the depletion layer narrower (5 marks)
(b) Draw a well diagram of simple cell and explain its two defects (5.5 marks)
11. (a) With the aid of diagram show the directions of the induced current in a coil of wire, produced
when:
(i) North pole of magnet approach a coil ( 2.5 marks)
(ii) Withdrawn South pole from a coil ( 2.5 marks)

(b) List three (3) ways you can use to increase the induced current in generators?

(3 marks)
(c) Briefly explain how the half wave – rectification occur (4.5 marks)
