7 Battery Charger

7.1 S900 Model

Check carefully that the mains voltage
(single-phase 230 V ~) corresponds to
the one indicated on the battery charger
technical data plate.

Check that the plug used to connect the

battery charger to the mains is fitted
with an earthing wire. If you are not
sure, do not connect the battery charger.

Connect the batteries to be charged to the charger

through the side sockets, by using the cables
supplied (fig. 8.2).

The battery charger S900 is suitable for charging

lead batteries from 40 to 120 Ah. It is particularly
recommended for cyclic use and light traction.
The charging takes place in three stages:
A. the first stage (LED 1, red on), with a
constant voltage system, allows a rapid partial
recharge up to 15 V. At this stage, the battery MAINS
is charged up to 60-80% and the following 1ST STAGE
phase is automatically started; 2ST STAGE
B. the second stage (LED 2, green on), with
constant voltage, allows the battery to be
charged fully with a constant voltage of 15 V
during about 6 hours;
C. the third stage (LED 1 and 2 off, MAINS LED
on), with constant voltage, allows completion
of the charge. It allows the battery to be
connected even for long periods (buffer
battery). FIG. 7.1 BATTERY CHARGER LED

8 Design and Safety of the Paying System (Circuit)

8.1 Correct Design

Circuit good design proves essential to ensure:
• Safety
• Low maintenance
• Vehicle easy management

DO NOT OVERESTIMATE children drive ability

DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE the unpredictable behaviour of children.
MINIMISE THE RISK OF COLLISIONS.

BASIC RULES
• One-way circuit.
• No crash between vehicles is allowed.
(THESE ARE NOT DODGEM VEHICLES)
• One single child per vehicle

TRACK CONSTRUCTION
Track shall be fenced, leaving just an opening to the parking area destined to getting on board or out of
vehicles.

A small track, with narrow bends increases the number of collisions.

A wider circuit with wide bends reduces the number of impacts and thus also vehicle damages.

Avoid track design that could cause head on collision, such as a 8-shaped track.

Ensure there is a single entry/exit onto the track, to avoid children crossing the circuit. It is essential to
use the AUTOMATIC LIMIT SWITCH. This enables the vehicles to always stop at a predetermined position.

Track bend angles shall be designed according to bend radii and to vehicle max. speed.

Tracks shall not have any bump causing wheels raising from ground. They shall not even have up or
downhill sections.

Ensure the battery storage/charging area is easily accessible from the track.

Small tracks will increase the number of impacts. Design a track wide enough to ensure children safety.

Track lane shall be as wide as possible, but not allow any U-turn.

CIRCUIT DIMENSIONS: Sela Group RECOMMENDATIONS

The following dimensions are the min. dimensions we recommend for mini cars tracks.
Min. external dimensions : 12m x 6m 4 to 6 12V mini cars
16m x 8m 6 to 10 12V mini cars
20m x 10m 10 to 15 12V mini cars
In case of 24V go karts, a wider area shall be used

Lane width: 3 metres for 12V mini cars.

4 metres for 24V go karts.

24 V Go Kart tracks must have at least 15/20 meters in a straight line.

Too a small track could overheat the electrical system and result in electronic card damage.

- 31 -
8.2 TRACK CONSTRUCTION
A hard and smooth surface reduces tyre wear and makes driving easier.
Asphalt, smooth concrete or timber are excellent materials.

A slight slope shall be envisaged to make water drainage easier.

8.2.1 PERIMETER FENDERING AND CENTRAL RESERVATION

Track shall have a perimeter fendering.
Track edge shall be 15 high and have solid foundations.
Impacts with side fendering can be dampened by making vehicles slide along the fendering (track edge
metal tubular section) or through absorption (use of tyres).
Central reservation shall have the same characteristics of the perimeter fendering. If track is too small,
we recommend using rotating wheel islands in the tightest bends to help vehicles round the corners.

TRACK EDGE METAL TUBULAR SECTION

CHARACTERISTICS
Track edge is made with painted or zinc iron
100x40x3 tubular section, while track central part
sometimes is made of a 100x100x3 tubular section.
It can be used indoors or outdoors, on concrete or
asphalt. Track edge metal tubular sections must be
used only with battery-operated vehicles with
bumpers and max. speed of 20 km/h.

ASSEMBLY
Metal tubular sections shall be secured to ground
by drilling 16 mm holes and using expandable plugs
of at least 15x34, and 48x12 bolts if fixed on
concrete, or pickets, if fixed onto asphalt. The
different metal tubular sections will have to be
joined together using 30x12 bolts and relevant self-
locking nuts.
FIG. 8.1 TRACK EDGE METAL TUBULAR SECTIONS
MAINTENANCE AND CHECKS
We recommend checking once a month that bolts and nuts are tightened, and that expandable plugs
have not come out their seats. Should this be the case, tighten any loose bolt or plug.

TRACK EDGE WITH TYRES

If track edge is surrounded by tyres inserted in the
ground, a better impact absorption will be ensured.

FIG. 8.2 TRACK EDGE WITH TYRES

- 32 -
8.3 AUTOMATIC LIMIT SWITCH
All Sela vehicles can be fitted with an automatic limit switch. This enables the vehicles to stop at a
predetermined position.

Position the magnetic strip at approx. 4 metres from the desired stopping point.
When the ride has timed out a warning light will flash. The ride will only stop when the vehicle passes
over the magnetic strip, which is embedded in the track. All vehicles will thus always stop in the same
position.

When designing the circuit, envisage a parking area allowing vehicles to stop at the point where the ride
is required to stop.

8.4 EMERGENCY START AND STOP SYSTEM VIA REMOTE CONTROL

The START/STOP remote control A allows the
operator to remotely manage ride start and stop
phases.

The use of the emergency start and stop system

increases the safety levels and reduces the risks
connected to the use of the device.
Once coin is inserted, the electric toy starts after
having received the enable signal by the track
manager through the "START" button.
After the "START", the electric toy runs with the
standard time operation or, if enabled, with the
automatic limit switch.

The remote control also features an emergency

"STOP" button allowing to stop all vehicles at the FIG. 8.3 START/STOP REMOTE CONTROL
same time.

8.5 OPERATING PRESCRIPTIONS

The owner is responsible for the use of mini cars, and shall make sure that the safety of all users is
ensured.

Children shall be under the surveillance of adult responsible people.

The personnel authorised to work on vehicles shall be informed about their correct use for safety reasons,
and shall respect all the applicable prescriptions.

Operator shall visually follow vehicles ride, making sure that the envisaged safety prescriptions are
complied with.

Child is allowed to go on board the vehicle when it is stopped, and inside track parking area. At the end
of the ride, the operator will have to take vehicles in the parking area before allowing children to get out
or go on board of the vehicle.

The adult people responsible for children safety will always have to let them wear suitable shoes and
clothes, avoiding the use of swirling clothes that could get entangled in vehicle open moving parts.

- 33 -
8.6 CIRCUIT CORRECT USE: RULES
The owner is obliged to exhibit the RULES, to be clearly visible by both children and adult people.
The exhibition of the following rules will ensure a correct information of all users:

¾ The use of the system is strictly forbidden to children below 3 years of age

¾ Children below 3 years of age shall be accompanied by an adult person

¾ The use of safety belts is compulsory on vehicles, and the use of helmets when riding bikes and

vehicles with a speed over 5 km/h

¾ It is strictly forbidden to voluntarily crash against other vehicles

¾ It is strictly forbidden to enter or trespass track perimeter fendering

¾ Once the ride is over, before getting out of the vehicle, make sure that no other vehicle is

approaching, wait for the operator.

¾ The management is not liable for any damage caused by the failure to comply with these RULES and

reserves the right to ask all the people not complying with them - thus causing a danger for

themselves and other people - to get out of the vehicles.

¾ MINORS ARE UNDER THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PEOPLE ACCOMPANYING THEM.

- 34 -
9 Disposal
In compliance with EC directives or current local regulations, the user must:
A. take care of the disposal as well as of the elimination of the electric toy materials, in order to

and on the human health.

If the disposal of toxic materials is not carried out in compliance with the relating Regulations, the
following risks may occur:
A. environmental pollution,
B. poisoning of the persons performing the disposal.

The operator or the persons performing the disposal must take into consideration that the electric toy is
composed as follows:
