HBA: Task no.3

A. Collect at least five rock samples in your place and take a photo of the samples. Describe the
characteristics of each rock depending on their appearance, texture, color, and layers (or bands). Then
classify them as to igneous, sedimentary, or metamorphic rock. Place the photo of rocks on the box and the
needed data on the space provided

Kind of Rock: Sedimentary, Sandstone

Description: This rock is the same size as my hand. It feels very
gritty on the skin, it reminds me a lot of sandpaper. If I were to
describe how hard this rock is, I would say that it is very brittle. It
would take me minimal effort to crush it with my palms.

Kind of Rock: Igneous, Granite

Description: A whitish/grayish rock with a very rough and sharp
surface. In terms of hardness, this rock is quite tough, I tried
cracking it by throwing it on the floor but it didn’t get any serious
damage aside from a few spots on the surface.

Kind of Rock: Sedimentary, Limestone

Description: This rock is bigger than my hand, it was also heavy and just hard in general. Its not the
smoothest rock but it definitely isn’t rough.

Kind of Rock: Sedimentary, Conglomerate

Description: This rock is like a fusion of a bunch of other rocks, its
basically just various small rocks that stick together with cement.
This one has very small sharp and small little rocks inside it. It is
very light for its size; I feel like it has way too much air which
makes it fragile or brittle. I shattered this rock into pieces with my
bare hands right after taking this photo.

Kind of Rock: Sedimentary, Conglomerate

Description: This conglomerate rock is quite different from the
previous conglomerate rock. Because this one had round and
smoother rocks inside it, It’s also way harder and the cement feels
more condensed which makes it heavier.

B. Fill in the table below by providing basic information about the types of rocks. You may refer to
the words in the box below.
