CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

INTRODUCTION

The Malunggay, botanically known as MORINGA OLEFIERA is commonly

referred to as the miracle tree. The name miracle is derived from the vast multi-use and

multi-purpose nature of its parts.

This study of Moringga Omelette for Home Economics selected students at

Asian Institute of Technology, Sciences and the Arts INC. Is to prove that Moringa Omelette

is very effective and healthy foods that can help also to the students. All pants of Malunggay

tree are usable for nutritional and medicinal purposes from the roots, trunk and branches to

the leaves, flowers, and seeds. The small oval-dark green leaves are famous vegetable

ingredients in soup, fish and chicken dishes.

Omelette is a dish made from beaten eggs fried with butter or oil in a frying

pan (without stirring as in scrambled egg). It is quite common for the omelette to be folded

around fillings such as cheese, chives, vegetables, mushrooms, meat, (often ham or bacon),

or some combination of the above.

Leaves can actually be eaten raw but best added in meals due to its high

concentration of nutrients.
The purpose of the researchers is to give an idea for the students to know

about the omelette with dishes of malunggay.

Scope and Limitations

This study is limited to the students. The respondents are the selected Home

Economics students of Asian Institute of Technology, Sciences and the Arts, Inc. The focal

point in this study is for students to know if the Malunggay leaves can be an effective

ingredient in some dishes. The researchers will give a survey to 20 Home Economics

selected students who need to know about the topic.

Significant of the Study

The researchers aim to gain wider knowledge about Malunggay leaves if it can

be an effective ingredient to some dishes and what are the benefits that can Malunggay

CHAPTER 2
REVIEW RELATED LITERATURE

In this chapter, the researchers would present some information about the

related literature about Malunggay Leaves that can be an effective one, because of the

nutritious that come from it. This study discussed the benefits and nutrition that Malunggay

leaves can give to our body.

Foreign Literature
Moringga Oliefera is one of the best-known medicinal plant, the Moringga

plant has been consumed by humans (Iqbal, 2016).

The power of the tree can be harnessed in Moringga soap, it is one of the

richest plant sources of vitamin A, B, C, D, E, and K. (Anwar and Bhanger, 2013).

This also helps to reduce inflammation in the skin, which has proven incredibly

helpful in relieving pain and irritation related to eczema and other skin disorders, as well as

from day-to-day stress (Green Virgin Product, 2016).

According to Grammer (2012), fragrances are used to modulate body odor,

and according to psychology of fragrance choice especially in cosmetics served as a mask of

individuals body odor and improve its pleasantness.

The extract of Moringga leaves has antiseptic and skin purifying properties, as

well. Its routinely used to treat minor cuts, scrapes and bruises (Chaves, 2015).

Foreign Study

Moringga Oliefera is one of the best-known medicinal plant, the Moringga

helpful in relieving pain and irritation related to eczema and other skin disorders, as well as

from day-to-day stress (Green Virgin Product, 2016).

When you are in the sun, your body receives most of its vitamin D intake

through your skin. Therefore, using a soap filled with the power of Moringga can help treat

your skin issues and help overall wellness (Marero, 2014).

According to Artie Sy (2012), because of the many uses of the different parts

of a Malunggay (Moringga Oliefera) tree it has been called as “The Miracle Tree”.

Local Study
It has its anti-bacterial action that can fight with acne. It has skin healthy

nutrients like vitamin A, which helps build collagen in the skin. Vitamin C to help reduce fine

lines and wrinkles and the healing and anti-inflammatory benefits of vitamin E (Belchez,

2017).
The anti-inflammatory properties of Moringga leaf extract can help in the

treatment of acne. It removes impurities from the skin and helps to rejuvenate it, this

property can be used to an advantage in treating acne (Rister, 2011).

Native to South Asia and parts of Africa, the Moringga tree is used for most of

its parts including the seeds flowers, fruit peels, and unripe pods. But the leaves, in

particular appear to have antibacterial activity against human pathogens. Anecdotal

evidence suggests that Moringga may be a useful hand washing product but in vivo science

is not available to support this nation. In what is likely the first human trial on Moringga as a

hand-washing product, researchers at the London school of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine

assigned 15 volunteers to wash their hands with liquid soap or Moringga leaf powder in

crossover style. By artificially applying E. Coli to each hand the researchers were able to

detect whether Moringga or soap would be effective in ridding the hand of at least this

pathogen (Gardnera, 2011)

According to Gerrie Summers (2018), from a study on An Age-Old Beauty

Secret, in ancient Rome, Greece, and Egypt it was used to make medicinal ointments and

salves and to protect the skin from the desert environment. A daily skin treatment for

wrinkles and sun damage combined gum of frankincense and ground Cyprus grass mixed

with Fermented plant juice. A venerated oil, vases of Moringga oil were found inside ancient

tombs. It has skin healthy nutrients like vitamin A, which helps build collagen in the skin,

vitamin C, to help reduce fine lines and the wrinkles, and the healing and anti-inflammatory

benefits of vitamin E.

Moringga Oliefera is one such plant which is reported to process several

medicinal properties. The different parts of this plant viz, leaves, stem bark, roots, bark,
flowers, fruits, and seeds are used in the indigenous systems of medicine for the treatment

of variety of human ailments. (Chopra et al, 1956, Nadkarni, 1976).

The ethanolic extract of fruit showed highest phenolic content, strong

reducing power and free radical Scavenging capacity. The antioxidant capacity of ethanolic

extract of both fruit and leaf was higher in the invitro assay compared to aqueous extract

which showed higher potential in vivo, in view of potent antioxidant activity of Moringga

Oliefera aqueous and ethanolic extracts in vitro model, acute oral toxicity of the same was

carried out in swiss albino mice for its further development into drug product experiment

was conducted in accordance with the organization for Economic Cooperation and

Development (OECD) test guideline number 432.

Local Study
Many VCO-based beauty soaps and scrubs are currently hot on the market

because of virgin coconut oils properties. According to the website organic Facts, coconut oil

is predominantly composed of saturated ratty acids. Among its chief promotes silky -soft

hair and healthy, glowing, younger looking skin. It is well known to have medicina properties

and antimicrobial and antifungal agents, as well as antioxidant and antiaging properties. It

also has moisture retain capacity. Which makes it ideal to user for dry cracking skin (Llaneta,

2017).

Moringga Oleifera is also widely known as the miracle three for all of its

“miracle like” attributes. The Moringga three is so rich in nutrients that it can be used of any

purpose. The leaves of the tree are said to be a nutritional powerhouse and various part of

the tree can be used to care over 300 disease the leaves of the Moringga contain seven

times the amount of vitamin A and vitamin C compared to carrots and oranges. They are
also densely rich in protein and are famous for their antibacterial properties (Calapatial,

2017).

According to a study conducted by Caurez. C.L (2012), a student from

Batangas State University. Moringga oleifera locally known as “Malunggay” has been an

important crop in the Philippines utilizing mail the leaves and young pods as vegetable

furthermore rural folks usually utilize its roots (as decoction of bailed rooks) to was sores

and ulcers over the past decades scientific reports have been made describing not only its

nutritional properties but also its outstanding medicinal properties. these apparent

application of malunggay by the locals and its reported medicinal properties encourage this

study to evaluated the antibacterial potential of malunggay leaves extracts in gram-positive

(staphylococcus aureus and bacillus subtilis) and gram-negative (Escherichia coli and

salmonella typhi) bacteria.
