Maria Pasquini
Hi Maria. I am getting in touch with because I have come across several of your articles about
celeibitries giving back to their communities. I thought I would send you an idea that you might
find useful and something that your readers would be interested in, based on your previous
articles.
On December 16, Chance The Rapper’s nonprofit, SocialWorks, is hosting their annual “Night at
the Museum”. This article could focus on what this event is supporting, what happens during
“Night at the Museum”, when and where this event is happening, and other work SocialWorks has
done for the city of Chicago.
• Warmest Winter – One of the three initiatives of SocialWorks. “Night at the Museum”
highlights this. Warmest Winter initiative has collected over 156K warming items and is
this number continues to grow.
• What is “Night at the Museum” – a family focused event that benefits those that are
experiencing homelessness in the city of Chicago. It takes place at the Museum of
Science and Industry in Chicago. Families that attend are welcomed by music and
performances throughout the night. This will be the 4th year this event has taken place.
Best regards,
Gabrielle Horton
Briefing Memo
1. Start off with what SocialWorks has done and continues to do for the community
• Helping people with their immediate needs:
• Kids of the Kingdom: a summer program for kids ages 5-13
• OpenMike: a monthly space where high schoolers can perform, share, and connect
(based on a program that Chance and his friends loved in high school, run by their
mentor, Mike Hawkins)
• Warmest Winter: assistance for people experiencing homelessness (a year-round
program that offers coats, clothes, food, toys for kids, and resources for jobs, housing,
education,
etc.)
• Helping create system-wide change:
•The New Chance Fund: an arts and literature fund that has raised more than $5 million
for Chicago Public Schools
•My State of Mind: mental health and wellness services
3. After talking about the Warmest Winter Initiative would be a good time to get into more
of the details about “Night at the Museum”.
• Attendee's should bring donations for those experiencing homelessness
• When, Where, and What “Night at the Museum” is
4. Lastly, discuss other partnerships the Warmest Winter initiative has had;
• Universoul Circus, Top Fashion, Chicago Park District, and more outside of the usual
winter campaign to connect low-income families and those experiencing
homelessness to the joys of Chicago.
