Conference summary

On Saturday, the 11th of October 2022, an in-service training was held at Mai Halima girls
secondary school bearing the theme ‘understanding the psychology of a girl child’. The
meeting was open to all members of staff including the administrator, the accounts officer
and the school matron.

Deliberations were graced with a prayer from Sheikh Ibrahim Iddi. The keynote speaker was
the Head teacher, Mr Livanga who presented and expounded on the two types of schools viz.
a viz. core and single sex.

In the keynote speaker capacity, the Head teacher took sufficient time to further enlighten the
house on the following fundamental and substantial needs of the girl child:

 Love
 Purpose
 Mentorship
 Emotional support
 Stability
 Consistency
 Security
 Girls need education
 Structure
 Happiness

In general remarks and reviews, Members present, through the conference chair rendered
their sincere gratitude to the Head teacher for initializing in service trainings at Mai Halima
citing the following pros and significance of INSETS;

 School based insets are crucial to the maintenance and sustaining the capacity of the
teacher to continue to provide quality teaching and learning in the classroom.
 Teachers come together to discuss strategies for improvement, share the pearls of
wisdom and focus on how to improve the learning experience of the students.
 Teachers understand how to overcome obstacles in class and their problem solving
skills are improved
 Teachers learn the unique and innovative teaching methods. This INSET in particular,
focused on the importance of participatory learning.

Following a structured process of brainstorming and information exchange, participants in the

session reached a consensus on the following recommendations:

 The school should be conducting insets on both school and departmental level at least
once every term
 Private schools are not accounted for when government conducts meetings,
henceforth the school should be delegating and budgeting for representatives in all
relevant government meetings.
 A representative from the education division (Mr Mandaauka) should be informing
the school (Mai Halima) on all vicissitudes/changes in education policy.
 Visiting days should not to be scheduled in amalgamation with insets, this follows an
observation that parents tend to petition teachers’ attention hence disturbing the
discussions.
 Incentives should be revised; teachers were reluctant to receive the k2000s.

Signed:

Mr Livanga (Headteacher)
