Memorial of Our Lady of Guadalupe,
Patroness of the Philippines.
Today’s memorial recalls the apparitions at the hill
of Tepeyac from 9-12 December 1531 to the native
convert, Juan Diego; known to the Azttecs as
Tecoatlaxope (or de Guadalupe in Spanish),
meaning “She will crush the serpent of stone”;
declared patroness of the Americas and the
Philippines by Pope Pius XI in 1935.

Zechariah

Mary set out, proceeding in haste into the hill
country to a town of Judah, where she entered
Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth.
When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the
baby stirred in her womb. Elizabeth was filled
with the Holy Spirit and cried out in a loud
voice: “Blessed are you among women and
blessed is the fruit of your womb. But who am
I that the mother of my Lord should come to
me? The moment your greeting sounded in my
ears, the baby stirred in my womb for joy.
Blessed is she who trusted that the Lord’s
words to her would be fulfilled.” Then Mary
said:
“My being proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit finds joy in God my savior.”

Prayers of the Faithful
P – God of mystery, you are close to us and
you know what disturbs us. In union with
Mary, the Mother of your Son and our Mother,
we call on you: Lord, we place our hope in
you.
That the Pope, the bishops, priests, and
religious may be faithful to their commitment
to God. Let us pray to the Lord.

That believers may strengthen their trust and
confidence in your help and that they may be
ready to obey your will. Let us pray to the

Holy Spirit she conceived your Only Begotten
Son, and without losing the glory of virginity,
