Answers in Exercise 06

1. Multi-perspectives in history refers to the idea that is interpretational and

subjective, with multiple coexisting narratives about particular historical events. It is a
way of viewing, and a predisposition to view, historical events from different
perspectives through drawing on procedures and processes fundamental to history as a
discipline.

2. Multi-perspectivity affects the interpretation in a way that different interpretations

may arise from the same historical event. Because of these multi-perspectives, different
perspectives reveal the different sides of historical events, producing an interpretation
that is complete and complex.

3.Jose Antonio Julian Montero Y Vidal and Dr. Trinidad Hermenigildo Pardo De Tavera
are the persons who gave different versions of Cavite Mutiny.

4. According to Jose Antonio Julian Montero Y Vidal, the abolition of the Cavite
arsenal's privilege of exemption from tribute was the cause of the mutiny.

5. Francisco Albo, Antonio Pigafetta and Miguel A. Bernad are the persons who
gave different versions of the site of the First Mass and including the NHCP.

Answers in Activity 06

1 The Cavite Mutiny is a historical event that happened in Cavite on January 20, 1872,
which is all about the uprising of military personnel from Fort San Felipe, the Spanish
arsenal. The historical event has two versions: The Spanish version was narrated by
Jose Montero Y Vidal, and the Filipino version by Trinidad H. Pardo De Tavera. The
Spanish version tells us that it was the native soldiers and laborers of Cavite who
revolted to overthrow the Spanish rule as the cause of the said event and the Spaniards
considered it a form of rebellion and sedition. While the Filipino version tells us that it
happened as a response of native soldiers and laborers to the harsh policy of the new
Gen. Rafael Izquierdo. Both narratives tell different sides of the same event. The
Spanish version is the perspective of a Spaniard, and the Filipino version is the
perspective of a Filipino. I couldn't agree more with the Filipino version, not just because
I'm a Filipino but because of its transparency and how it shows the side of native
soldiers and laborers, including the privileges they only receive.

2. It was debated whether the first Mass in the Philippines took place in Butuan or
Limasawa. Both perspectives provided evidence to support their claims. Antonio
Pigafetta claims that the first mass in the Philippines happened in Butuan and some of
the evidences were just rumors while the NCHP claims that the first mass in the
Philippines happened in Limasawa not in Butuan. NCHP's claim was supported by
geographical descriptions and evidences. Only two primary sources served as a basis
of two parties, one is the log kept by Francisco Albo, a pilot of one of Magellan's ship,
Trinidad and the other was the account by Antonio Pigafetta, First Voyage Around the
World and an eyewitness of the events, particularly, of the first Mass. I am in favor with
the NCHP's claim as it was critically analyzed before they proclaimed that means they
also studied the other claim and evaluate it's credibility and validity and still Limasawa is
the location that matches all the primary sources.
