Ancient Indians were said to practice elaborate hygiene rituals that involved bathing three times daily. The ancient Egyptians were also known to value cleanliness and priests would bathe frequently. By around 5,000 years ago during the Bronze Age, bathing and washing one's body had become an important daily ritual for many human cultures.
