Thesis Capstone Project Title:

Air Pollution Detector

Description of the Project:

The Air Pollution Detector is made up of sensors encased inside a tube that automatically
detect air and its characteristics, such as particulate matter. The main component of the detector,
an Arduino board, is connected to the two sensors. It has a WiMax and router connection for
quick and simple internet access.

Objectives:
The overall goal of this project is to use carbon monoxide and methane gas sensors to
monitor the current level of pollution. The specific goals of this project are to redesign and
develop a detector capable of monitoring the status of pollutants. To compare the air quality to
standards or limit values. To compare air quality data from various locations. To collect
information on the level of pollution. Also, determine whether the air is low, medium, or high.

Engineering Data Process:

1. Ask: Identify the Need and Constraints
In order to track the air quality in the chosen area of interest, the designers set out to
design and build a programmable air pollution detector. After gathering data and details on the
level of air pollution in Batangas, the developers created an air pollution detector. The carbon
monoxide and methane gas sensors, as well as an Arduino microcontroller board, were part of
the design. It has also created a website where consumers could see the outcomes. For the
device's intended output, the materials readily available in the neighborhood market were taken
into account.
2. Research the Problem
There are increasing risks to public health and the health and welfare of the environment
as a result of the expansion in the quantity and complexity of air pollution brought on by
urbanization, industrial development, and an increase in the use of motor vehicles. This
demonstrates that pollution is getting worse and has to be addressed right away. The system that
tracks the number of air pollutants in chosen areas of interest was developed by the creators to
solve this urgent issue.
3. Imagine: Develop Possible Solution
The purpose of the Air Pollution Detector is to track the concentration of air
contaminants. The users of this equipment can decide whether the pollution level is low, high, or
critical. This motivates the researchers to employ a tool that will easily monitor the number of air
contaminants. This apparatus allows researchers to gauge the level of air pollution, whether it be
low, medium, or high. Additionally, the device captures data using a mobile phone or personal
computer that is online.

4. Plan: Select a Promising Solution

Since the nation's economic growth has been reliant on industrial activities, air pollution
has become a major issue in modern times. This motivates the researchers to employ a tool that
will easily monitor the number of air contaminants. This apparatus allows researchers to gauge
the level of air pollution, whether it be low, medium, or high. Additionally, the device captures
data using a mobile phone or personal computer that is online.

5. Create: Build a Prototype

Air pollution has grown significantly in importance in contemporary times as a result of
the dependence of the country's economic growth on industrial operations. This encourages the
researchers to use a program that will make it simple to keep track of the quantity of air
contaminants. Researchers can use this equipment to determine whether the degree of air
pollution is low, medium, or high. The gadget can also collect data from an online-connected
smartphone or personal computer. The fourth step is purchasing, when the researchers look for
locally accessible supplies and parts that are required for the project's completion. The project's
construction begins after the purchase.

6. Test and Evaluate Prototype

The designers come to the conclusion that it is feasible to revamp the current Air
Pollution Detector after finishing the tests. The system's materials were successful since they
produced the results that the designers had anticipated. The data that the developers collected
was examined against the air quality guidelines and restrictions based on earlier studies.

7. Improve: Redesign as Needed

After putting the air pollution detector to the test, the researchers make some suggestions
for how to advance and enhance the project. other air pollution sensors being added to the
system for more precise readings. It's also advised to improve the online application. To offer
more thorough information regarding the effects of air on human health, further characteristics
may be added. The graphical user interface might be improved to support the project's aesthetic
goals. Utilize two detectors to track the number of air contaminants for data comparability and
accuracy. using equipment pertinent to the project, such as devices to measure pressure and
humidity.

Summary of the Process:

Coming up with a conceptualization was the first thing to consider when working on this
project. The process of brainstorming was observed. People were thought to benefit from the
project.
The next phase is to plan, which entails looking for reasonably priced but high-quality
resources as well as gathering data from similar research on the internet. The third step entails
planning and designing the project, during which the developers consider how to make it
productive and efficient.
The researchers explored locally accessible materials and components that were required
for the project's creation during the fourth step, which is a purchase. Construction of the project
begins after the purchase.
The project was then subjected to tests to determine whether the device performed as
planned. The developers gave the project a thorough inspection to make sure it was operating as
intended. The final testing and completion of the project were the last steps, and the enhanced
sensitivity might have resulted .
