Device Settings

Overview

The Device Settings option allows the user to access, view and configure the RAID Controller,
create new virtual disk, and gather hard disk information. Earlier Reboot with Ctrl-R option was
a feature of the legacy BIOS Boot Mode. With the Boot Mode set to UEFI, the Ctrl-R option is no
longer available.

Exploring the Lab Environment

Use Case: In this lab, the following tasks are performed:

• Create virtual disk using Virtual Console.


• Update physical disk properties.
• Identify the firmware version of Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet.

Lab Demonstration Steps:

1. Click Device Settings.

2. To create a virtual disk, select the RAID level. For example, click RAID Controller in SL 7:Dell
<PERC H745 Front> Configuration Utility.

3. Click Main Menu.

4. Click Configuration Management.

5. Click Create Virtual Disk.

6. Click the drop-down menu to select the RAID level. For this example, select RAID 5.

7. Click Select Physical Disks.

8. Minimum three disks are required to configure RAID 5. Click first three options to select as
shown below and click Apply Changes.

9. The RAID configuration is complete. Click OK to continue.

10. Click Create Virtual Disk.

11. Mark the Confirm checkbox and click Yes to confirm.

12. Virtual disk is created. Click OK to continue.

13. Click Physical Disk Management.

14. Users can change the physical disk properties by clicking that disk. For example, click the
first option (Physical Disk 01:00:HDD, SAS, 1.091 TB, Online, (512 B)).

15. Click the Select operation drop-down menu and select Blink from the list.

16. Click Go.

17. Blink property is added for the physical disk. Users can also change the disk operation status
as Unblink. Click OK to continue.

18. Click Device Settings to check the firmware version of Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet.

19. Click the highlighted device Embedded NIC1 Port1: Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet BCM5720.

20. Click Firmware Image Properties.

21. Firmware version of Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet is displayed here. Click Back to go back to
main Configuration age.

22. Click NIC Configuration to enable network boot settings.

23. Click the PXE radio button to select as Legacy Boot Protocol. Click Back.

24. Click Finish. Click Yes to save the settings changes.

25. The Success message marks the successful completion of the task. Click OK.
