Overview

This syllabus contains all relevant information about the course: its objectives and
outcomes, the grading criteria, the texts and other materials of instruction, and of
weekly topics, outcomes, assignments, and due dates.

Consider this your roadmap for the course. Please read through the syllabus carefully
and feel free to share any questions that you may have. Please print a copy of this
syllabus for reference.

Course Description (3 Credit units)

This course introduces the various information and communications technologies.


Students will research and practice using modern productivity applications. Students
will examine how information systems are used to solve problems and make better
business decisions and apply these concepts to analyze business cases.

Course Outcomes
At the end of this course, students should be able to:

1. Integrate into business situations and analysis, and evaluate both theory and
practice relevant to Management Information Systems.

2. Fully explain the relationship among and between information systems and
management, analyze how technology can be used to synthesize complex data to
make sound business decisions.

3. Fully understand how cloud computing will change all aspects of MIS from hardware
and software to the hiring of technology personnel and managers. Prepare processes,
in conjunction with technology personnel, to use MIS for competitive advantage.

4. Ascertain and be cognizant of the ramifications of management information systems on


personal privacy.

5. Employ several methods of organizational change theory and methodology to implement


new or replacement management information systems through understanding and
evaluating how resistance to change can affect MIS implementation

Grading and Evaluation


Your grades will reflect the way in which you present and support your topics and
positions in the various learning activities used in this course. The grades will be based
on the quality and quantity of your comments and responses in the various activities.
The grades for the course will be based on an accumulation of points throughout the
course. The various graded activities are weighted as follows:

About the Professor:

Dr. Bhong Ybañez was an Associate Professor 2 of Business Management & Public
Administration in SPUD and a member of the graduate faculty since 1995.  He was the
former Director of Research and Research Publications, acting dean of the Graduate
School, program chair of Graduate studies in Business and Public Administration
whom he oversees these two offices to meet the school’s Vision and Mission. He joined
SPUD in 1991 after taking the two Bachelor’s degrees in Business Management and
Computer Science. He also holds a Master in Business Administration, Master of Arts
in Religious Education and a Doctorate Degree in Public Administration and
Organizational Psychology. He holds three special courses, Urban Planning and Regional
Development, Research and Development, and Public Governance from the University of
the Philippines, Diliman, and Quezon City.

An active researcher and consultant, Professor Ybañez interests include (ISO) Quality
Audit, electronic commerce strategies, grant writing, organizational development, urban
planning and development, and technology transfer.  An active member of the
Philippine Statistical Association, Philippine Association of Public Administrators and
Asian University Digital Network. Currently, he is the BOD Chairman, St. Catherine
Family Helper Project Inc. an NGO based in Dumaguete City.

Dr. Ybañez has published more than fifty (50) researches, advised more than a hundred
(100) dissertations, thesis, and feasibility studies. The results of his research have been
presented to audiences during National and International Research Conferences.  In
addition, he has worked collaboratively with dozens of colleagues and students to expand
knowledge in his discipline. He currently works as grant writer of Heroic Media based in
Texas, U.S.A., a part time faculty of Negros Oriental State University.

He is married to Louela Bangay Taganile and has two kids Ravi Roi and Lekeisha.
